New community
May. 10th, 2009 03:45 pmInspired by the wonderful recs that
mews1945 shares with us daily, and by
shirebound's "Vaults of Fluff" recs, I came up with the idea of this community. It's called
unfound_gems.
This community will be a place where you can come to rec things that maybe few people have seen and appreciated before. It can be LJ posts, or fics, or fanart, or vids, or websites or archives--anything you've found of interest in the past, but which did not seem to get its share of attention at the time. It's not confined to just one fandom or just one type of post.
Anyone can post and membership is open to anyone. However, if you link to adult content, please put a warning before the link, and do not link to locked posts
"Share the Treasure! We've all been there: read a wonderful post or story or seen a great piece of art or found a clever idea, and then noticed that no one else had commented or seemed to see it. Or a friend is down, because it seems no one is reading her latest WIP. Or perhaps you are feeling the same way about an entry of your own.
Here's a chance. Post a link to something that you think ought to be shared and appreciated. Ideally, it's not something brand new, that people may just not have gotten around to seeing yet, but something that's been around a while and never recieved its proper due. And you may certainly share something of your own that you think is underappreciated-- in that case, put "self rec" in the header. Otherwise, share the wealth--stories, art, interesting posts, websites or archives.
And if you check out a link someone recs, do come back and comment to their post if you liked it!"
I hope a lot of you will join and take part! It could be a really good way to share the treasure!

Date: 2009-05-10 10:07 pm (UTC)I woke up this morning with the idea complete in my head, and was only deterred slightly when I discovered the original name I chose was already taken.
Done!
Date: 2009-05-10 09:17 pm (UTC)I hope this works out well and gets a lot of readership; if at all possible I may link some of my recs & reviews because some of them (okay, only one at the moment, but I've been swamped lately) are on otherwise impossible-to-find sites.
Re: Done!
Date: 2009-05-10 10:08 pm (UTC)And thanks for beating me to "A Secret Gate". LOL! If we had not been out of dog food at feeding time (unthinkable) you would never have managed it! *grin*
Re: Done!
Date: 2009-05-10 10:13 pm (UTC)So figuring that you just hadn't gotten 'round to it yet I had to beat you there--in fact, the reason there isn't a review in was because I was pretty sure you were at your own computer frantically typing one in! I hope the comm works well; there are so many things out there that I feel don't get nearly enough exposure and/or love. And this was really the quintessential case of that.
Sorry to have made you hunt for another one...
...okay, not really... :)
