Fifteen books you've read that will always stick with you. First fifteen you can recall in no more than 15 minutes. Random order

1. The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien
2. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
3. Out of the Silent Planet by C.S. Lewis
4. Perelandra by C.S. Lewis
5. That Hideous Strength by C.S. Lewis
6. God in the Dock by C.S. Lewis
7. The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood by Howard Pyle
8. The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
9. The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas
10. Podkayne of Mars by Robert Heinlein
11. The Knowne World Handbook (an SCA publication)
12. Betty Crocker's Cookbook for children (1962 edition)
13. Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott
14. Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain
15. Writing & Illuminating & Lettering by Edward Johnston

I confess that I left two things off that occurred to me at once, but that was because they were entire sets of books: One was Childcraft and another was Richard's Topical Encyclopedia. My mother purchased those sets in the 50s, when I was still in kindergarten, and I spent hours poring over them throughout my early life. I still have both complete sets.

But my list is the first 15 individual books that came to mind.

Podkayne! I remember reading that, but it's been so long ago, I've forgotten it.

I wonder if we were the last generation to grow up with encyclopedias in the house?

Oooh, this is fun!

Off the top of my head, I recall:

1, The Way by Josemaria Escriva;
2-8, the Narnia books;
9-11; Enid Blyton's The Naughtiest Girl;
12-13, Agatha Christie's And Then They Were None; and The Man in the Brown Suit; and
14, Eva Ibbotson's The Star of Kazain. :P

I was just telling middlest about Podkayne of Mars yesterday. Wondering where my copy might have gone to... I think she'd really enjoy it.

I loved Robert Heinlein. I have one of his on my list too. I read most of the ones that I could find while in Junior High and wish I had copies of them now.
