I thought I knew the hobbit family trees pretty well. But a google search for "Eglantine Took" brings up this Wiki entry:

Eglantine Took, or Eglantine Banks, a fictional character; mother of Peregrin Took, second cousin, once removed, of Haldomere Banks

Who the heck is "Haldomere Banks"? He's not in the Family Trees in Appendix C. And I don't find him in People of Middle-earth Family Trees either. Has anyone ever seen a reference from canon to a "Haldomere Banks" or did somebody's fanfic OC make his way into a Wikipedia article?

Googling that name turned up someone on an LOTR message board from 2002. I'd say it's someone's OC.

Aren't Wikipedia entries written by anybody who's interested in adding to the store of knowledge there? Maybe the creator of 'Haldomere Banks' wrote the entry. I think there's a way you can challenge it. I use Wikipedia a lot, and I notice there are frequently admin notices up that say 'the information in this article has not been sourced' or things like that. They're pretty good at owning up when entries aren't entirely credible.
