I've had a bit of a cold today, so we skipped church. I've been resting and reading one of my new Christmas gifts:

The History of the Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, Part One: Mr. Baggins, John D. Rateliff, ed.

Kind of like HoMe, only for The Hobbit! HotH?

I'm going to have a great time with it-- there are two volumes, plus a copy of TH-- which gives me three again. But none of them are paperback, now. (My paperback finally fell to pieces.)

I know. But of course, JRRT didn't throw Bingo out altogether-- one of Bilbo's uncles was named Bingo! (Do you suppose it was actually Frodo's *middle* name? LOL!)

Oh, I can elaborate at some length, believe me - and believe me when I say that if you choose to go there in fic? Keep it very vague. The details aren't pretty or pleasant and make Certain People extremely uncomfortable.

Kinda like how Stewardesses became Flight Attendants, maids became domestic workers, Bank Tellers became ATMs, the word actress kinda disappeared and everyone just became actors, and buses and trains became mass-transit!
