Your timing is PERFECT. I'm sitting here finishing up my taxes and wishing for some kind of distraction (hence my websurfing). And here you provide. Beautiful! Thank you for the link!
This got me to thinking (as I mentioned on the thread)--if we're going to do bureaucracy crossovers, do you think that Merry and Pippin could claim diplomatic immunity in order to get away with various shenanigans in the White City and/or Rohan?
Perhaps *MERRY* could-- he's a knight of Rohan, after all. Pippin, on the other hand, is a member of the Gondorian military, poor kid! He'd probably be in even *more* trouble!
Of course, in their later years, when they retire-- well, I'm guessing that as a former Thain, he'd have the standing of a former head-of-state!
Well, eventually they're made councillors of the King as well, which sounds a bit like the equivalent of a Shire ambassador... Except that the Shire's part of the reunited realms. But Merry could get away with it, at least, and Pippin could probably get away with it in Rohan. And yes, once they've retired... *snicker*
Yes-- you know, I'm aware that some have Merry and Pippin pass on very shortly after they arrive in Gondor. But as for myself, I can only imagine them having a high time there for several more years, being spoiled rotten by the Gondorian nobility and the Royal family! After all, both were descended from Gerontius, and he'd needed no Ring to live to a ripe old age!
And I can easily imagine them taking some slight advantage in being heroes of the War!
You have no idea how much I appreciate your linking to this. That gives me a great feeling since I rarely write anymore---even silly stuff is few and far between. The rec is much appreciated.
