Berilac's Errand

Berilac Brandybuck has a rather difficult message to deliver.

Perhaps you can. I'd love to see Mac having a Post-Quest chat with Frodo...

So do I. I actually have a few words in my ideas file. We shall see if he will co-operate. If not a post-quest chat with Frodo, maybe one with a young Frodo in Brandy Hall... or even just a bit of Merimac mischief.

Really intense, involving narrative. The hobbits had no idea what they were dealing with. The bit of humor with Sam's dad and Lobelia lightened things momentarily, but the tension remained tight right to the end. Well done, Barbara.

No, they really did not. Fatty had told Saradoc and his brother, but in confidence, and they would not have repeated it, because really-- who would have believed it?

I have wanted to work that little encounter with Lobelia and the Gaffer into something for a while, and this piece really did need a brief bit of lightness before the end, so I was glad to use it!

Poor Berilac, that was such a very errand. I really enjoyed this.

One of the reasons Uncle Saradoc had sent him, rather than trusting to the Quick Post was that he knew that Master Gamgee was unlettered. The news had to be delivered in person, and Saradoc felt it should be a family member to give the tidings.

That's so thoughtful and compassionate! What a difficult errand indeed.
