And signed up for Facebook. Actually, what happened was the DH accidentally-sort-of signed up for it, and then asked me what he could do with it. Well, I didn't know, so I figured I might as well take the plunge myself and we could figure it out together.

My page is here. I thought I'd basically use it to direct people to my LJ and other places I already frequent. Problem is, the links I tried to put in with the URLs did not come out as links. I tried the < a href ="" > HTML thingie, but it didn't work, so I just put in the plain URLs.

Does anyone know how to put *real* links on my profile there? That way anyone who wants to know about me can just come here.

Me too. I mean first it took me to the login home page, I logged in, came back and got the same thing. It plopped me onto my profile page.

I haven't a clue how to put links on a Facebook page, but I did OK your friend request there. ;)

Me three. I can only get to my homepage from that link, for some reason. But yay, welcome to Facebook! :p

I'd love to connect with more LJ friends on Facebook -- here's a link to my profile so you can send a request to me and I'll respond with one back to you :)

I think I see the problem with the link here to there. If you put your mouse over the link and read the address it comes up with, it looks like your linking to an edit page for your profile, not the profile page itself.

I don't have a Facebook, never will, and my neighbor here at work doesn't know how to post links there either. Is there FAQ page?

Grrrr. You're, not your. :D

Was also going to mention, make sure you have everything there as private or friends only. There are serious privacy issues there if you keep everything public.

It took me to the "edit my account" profile page, too. Can you go in to to your Facebook, to "edit my profile" (on the left sidebar under your user/wall photo -- assuming you have one), then put the link to your LJ under the "contact info" as a website? Also, I second the comment that said to make sure you have good privacy settings: don't put anything in your profile that you aren't comfortable being public; go into "privacy settings" and make things like your address -- and whatever else you want -- "friends only," since you have to approve friends. After you click on "edit profile," the page that takes you to will have a link in the left sidebar for "privacy settings"; you can also get to them from the "account" dropdown menu in the top navigation bar.

Oh, and unless you *want* to see a bunch of games from your friends, click "hide" this app whenever anyone of them comes up -- and be very, very wary of polls/app's through Facebook. They will say they need to access your info to work; no thank you.

All that said, I do enjoy Facebook for keeping up with faraway (and close-by that I don't see enough) friends and relations.

I joined as the daughter of a friend who sadly died 18 months ago asked me to do to keep in touch. I mostly use it to play games such as scrabble.I find the site very hard to figure out.
Thanks for friending me!

I've had a FB for a while now and mostly what I do there is play the games. I have some photos posted but I have no idea how to link. I didn't link to me LJ from there because a lot of the people on my FB have no idea about my LJ. LOL

How to find out your profile ID to link up

Hi, dream - this is how you find out your profile at FB. Go to your home page, and place your cursor over your name; this will show a link (in IE or Firefox) telling you the address with a number id at the end (here is mine as a example - and please add me as a friend by the way...- www.facebook.com slash profile.php?id=100000166839299; [just in case, I phonetically spelled it out... here is the URL: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000166839299]

Hope this helps... I just happened across this in your LJ, playing catchup as a break from Discrete Math.

I had to learn a few things when posting a website and giving a restaurant a FB and Twitter presence last year.

Cheers,

Tracey
