Very particular recs. I want to upload some more fic to my Nook. I've already begun with some old favorites, but I want to find some stories I've never read before.

I've uploaded a few MEFA nominations from my wish list, and have also uploaded and re-read Larner's "For Eye's to See as Can", Primsong's "Nothing of Note" and Indigo Bunting's "The River".

Here's what I'm looking for: gen--and no rating above R, long and plotty multi-chapter stories, preferably hobbit-centric-- but if hobbits only play a minor role that's OK, or even if it's got no hobbits but features other characters in LotR. Complete, not WIPs.

Bonus points if it's on a site where I can get the whole story at once instead of one chapter at a time.

I've already read just about everything hobbity at Stories of Arda, but there might be some non-hobbit stories there I'd like.

I have a few fickets about Isildur, Anarion, and their families that are gen. Sorry, no Hobbits, but Numenoreans galore coming out of the woodwork. Not all my stuff is gen, but I do have some and am willing to share.

Do you use the Nook for PC software? I have it and the Nook iPod app.

Nook for PC just came out a couple days ago and it's software you can download online so you can read your Nook books on your computer. I use it and the Kindle for PC software all the time because then my speech recognition software reads it to me. I have extremely low to no vision now due to the cancer, so being able to have books read to me is a huge bonus. You can get the Nook software from the Barnes and Noble website.

If you ever want some fluffy Numenorean fic, give me a shout.

You've probably seen all these, but these are most of my completed multi-chapter fics! :)

If you're interested, I can send you 'The King's Surgeon,' the original timeline version. I've got that as a Word file. Oh, and several of Shirebound's - I think I've got all of her 'Quarantined-verse' stories as Word files. If you're willing to branch out into Silmfic, I've also got Pandemonium's 'The Apprentice' and Dawn Felagund's 'Another Man's Cage' (which made Feanor seem like a real person rather than a myth).

Oh, and also Aearwen's 'Light Fingers.' Terrific story in Minas Tirith around the time of the war, and a phenomenal OC who interacts with members of the Fellowship - an orphaned girl who steals to support herself and her siblings.

All of my fics - multi-chaptered or one-shots - are kept on my hard drive as single, long files. Just let me know what you want. I have "Elladaniel" if you want that - it's the sequel to "Light Fingers"...

shirebound: (Good fanfic - Baylor)
From: [personal profile] shirebound
Baggins Babe is one of my favorite SOA authors, as is Pipfan. I assume you've read Baylor's wonderful "The Care and Feeding of Hobbits" and "Fate and The High King Falcon"? Thundera Tiger's "While the Ring Went South" is one of the first long Fellowship stories I ever read. Other early favorites that are multi-chapter are Elwen's "Interlude at Imladris", Lilybaggins' "The Pine Woods Excursion" and Mainframe's "Brandywine". I can give you links if you need them.

If you're looking for non-SoA fics, I'd suggest The Hobbits (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=25&t=000038) by Gilthalion on the Barrow-downs fan fiction page (that's the only location for it that I know of). But I understand that when I linked to it earlier, you read it at that point, so...

You have probably already read Sam's Rose by jodancingtree. But that is one that I reread frequently.

Have you read any of Lothithil's stuff before? (My favorite fic by her was in the MEFAs; an origins fic that tied Bilbo's mithril coat to the mail that Idril commissioned for her son.) As far as I'm aware, she never archived on SoA, but she did some really long day-in-the-life style fics about Frodo. I remember being moved the first time I read her account of Primula's and Drogo's death, but I also remember that he had very explicitly blue and expressive eyes, so I can't account for my taste back then. :)

Anyhow, here is most of her hobbit fic. A lot of it is quite long.

The Young Rascal from Buckland: http://forum.barrowdowns.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=25&t=000003

The Heir of the Hill: http://forum.barrowdowns.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=25&t=000004

The Master of the Hill: http://forum.barrowdowns.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=25&t=000017

I believe her stuff is also on ff.net, if that's easier to access.

And I may also be able to find some good LotR themed RPGs for you if you need those.

Oh! And if you're willing to branch outside of LotR, take a look at the best Harry Potter fic I've ever read (not that I've read many, but this one sucked me right in and it's pretty darn canon as well). It gets a high rating, but only for violence.

My LOTR stuff is all here (or on the Crossovers page, which I think I've cross-linked to). There are a few het stories in the mix (Faramir/Eowyn and Sam/Rosie are the main pairings), but most of them are gen. And there are a couple of Silm fics on the Miscellany page.
I haven't read much recent stuff on Fanfiction.net, but I can recommend The Monster of Bywater by Talking Hawk and The Beginning by Trilliah, two takes on Frodo and Sam's first meeting, and two stories by my friend [livejournal.com profile] beloved_tree, Of Fallen Angels and Second Chances (Nienna catches up with Gandalf in Mandos before his return to Middle-earth in TTT) and Stealing Tales from a Yuletide Hearth(more wee hobbits!).

Have you read "By Life or Death?" It's on the West of the Moon web site, so I imagine you have. It's by Mariole. I have beta read versions of it, as well as everything Baggins Babe has written. I also have your stuff on here. I can't go anywhere without my LotR and Harry Potter fan fiction folders. Altogether, I have over 60 megabytes of stuff to read in .txt or .rtf formats.

I can see me taking some of this suggestions and putting them onto my e-reader. I have plenty of stuff on there already including some of your stories, but am always on the lookout for more.

I compiled this list of stories on ff.net I thought outstanding.
http://www.fanfiction.net/community/Outstanding_LOTR_Stories/4015/
Not many Hobbit stories, I fear, but they are all quality reads.

IF(and it's a very big if)you ever want any of my stories as word files, I'd be happy to provide them for you. All the stories are on single pages on my site and the Hobbit ones are The Hidden days of Healing,Good King of Cats, Yavanna's Gift and More than Meets the eye.

Oh, here are a few hobbity stories that might fit your bill that are on ff.net but that I don't think are on SOA:

Tathar's:

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/698306/1/What_Could_Possibly_Happen

LOTS of stories here by Talking Hawk, who only writes gen hobbity stories:

http://www.fanfiction.net/u/198298/Talking_Hawk

And of course, our dear Elwen's gorgeous stories---I don't believe she has them at SOA. Elwen never wrote a bad fic in her life. (Though she does have that one MPREG you can avoid!)
