Sleepless

Well, here I am in the wee hours, on the computer again. You'd have thought as tired as I was, I'd have slept all the way throught tonight. I was up at 4:30 yesterday on purpose, so that I could drive to the SCA event and be there in time to teach my calligraphy class.

I didn't realize it until I got to thinking--this was my first event *all year*! Our group's event was postponed due to Ivan, and I couldn't make the rain date, and other events within driving distance have conflicted with work or family.

It was a lot of fun. I had 7 people take my class. I took a couple of other hands on classes myself, and spent a lot of time just watching. I missed most of the combat, but I finally got to see the hound coursing, which is beginning to get popular, but I had never watched before. And I got to talk to a lot of friends that I haven't seen in ages, and meet a few new ones. We had a brief, informal Baronial court, and then an incredible 4 course feast. My only regret was that by the time the dancing started, I was too tired to take part. I watched for a couple of dances, and then headed home.

Exhausted. But I'm *still* awake now. Oh well.

It sounds like it was a really fun day! I keep wanting to get involved in SCA but never quite get around to it. It's one of those things that you have to have transportation to get to, as events are never right down the street. They are also seemingly never on the bus lines, lol. Makes it harder for us non-drivers.

It is a lot of fun! I saw on your user info that you are in Pittsburgh--which at one time at least was part of the Debatable Lands, over which Pennsic War is fought.(LOL!) (The story was "loser gets Pittsburgh") That puts you in the Kingdom of the East, I think. If you can make contact with a local group, you might find folk who are willing to give you rides to meetings, classes and events, and so forth. Most groups are nice that way--they are always looking for ways to encourage new members!
