Eventful day!
Oct. 1st, 2010 09:26 pmThe DH drove me to Edmond today so I could meet up with
ramblin_rosie! We had a lovely mini-moot, and talked about fic and crossovers and LotR and had chocolate cupcakes at Barnes & Noble! After we dropped her off at her seminar, the Southwest Regional Conference on Christianity and Literature where she was presenting a paper on fanfiction, (in which she quoted me and
the_arc5 among many others) the DH and I found a nice park and had a picnic. Although we entertained numerous unwanted guests in the form of a swarm of flies, it was still fun. We drove home down Route 66, which is always fun.
He had two promising phone interviews today as well. *crossing fingers*
And then after supper,
ceshaughnessy and I revealed the stories for
lotr_community's Remix Challenge!
The stories can be found here on LJ, or here on DW!
I was so happy to finally post the story I wrote based on
blslarner's lovely "Unbelief", while I recieved an utterly incredibly perfect story from
labourslamp AKA Celeritas! It's a gapfiller for my "It Takes a Took" and I just love it to pieces!
I hope everyone is going to have a nice weekend!

Date: 2010-10-02 06:25 am (UTC)Praying that one (or preferably both) of the interviews will turn up gold, of course.
And again, I'm so happy you enjoyed my bit of remix! Now that they're all revealed, I have to ask: did you, as a mod, know I was assigned you? I got the email from Cathleen, and she didn't say anything either way, so I never was quite sure!

Date: 2010-10-02 01:39 pm (UTC)And your friend was able to present a paper on fanfiction at a literature conference, how exciting! Do you know what was the gist of her presentation, and how it was received? I'm always interested in seeing whether fanfiction is making strides toward becoming, I don't want to say "legit" because to me, it *is* legit, but more accepted by academia, I guess I might say.
And I must have missed the memo, but what exactly is a "remix"? (There are still little corners of fandom & writing that I'm only just now discovering, apparently! LOL)

Date: 2010-10-02 02:50 pm (UTC)A "remix" is where you riff off of someone else's fanfic. It's a little different from the occasional tribute story where someone writes in someone else's universe or uses their OCs, as it is generally set up ahead of time through asking the author or most often through a challenge like this one. Each participant was assigned another author. They then took one of that author's stories and wrote something based off it-- telling from another POV, or giving it a different ending, or expanding on it-- or in one case, turning it into poetry! Put in simplest terms, fanfic of fanfic! LOL!

Date: 2010-10-02 03:02 pm (UTC)And I'll have to check out those forums. Do let me know if your friend posts her essay or the series of essays on fanfic and theology... I"d be very interested in reading them.

Date: 2010-10-03 05:02 am (UTC)She did, did she? *blushes* I can't imagine that there was that much to boost about. :P She's read everything at least twice now so since she hasn't told me it's awful I guess it isn't all that horrible. :P
