My answers to Anso's interview
May. 11th, 2005 08:19 am1. (adopted from you, lol) If you could meet Tolkien, what would you ask him?
I would like to ask him a number of things--including if I am anywhere hitting the mark with his characters as he saw them. I would also like him to clarify a few enigmas: Tom Bombadil, the Eagles, whether Balrogs had wings...
2. What is your favourite part or LOTR (books or movies, your choice)?
Considering that the first time I read the book, I hated it, it's funny, but "The Scouring of the Shire" is now one of my favorites. I also love Frodo saying "I will take the Ring", Pippin escaping the Orcs long enough to drop his brooch, Merry on the Pelennor, Sam standing up to Faramir, and "The Field of Cormallen" chapter.
Movies: In FotR, it was the moment when the Shire first came into view, just as beautiful and perfect as I always knew it must have been in my head all those years, and also Boromir's death sequence, starting with the defense of the hobbits--which is perfectly harrowing, and makes me choke up every time. In TTT, I think it is that beautiful moment when Edoras comes into view. That scene where the flag blows away is gorgeous! I also love the scene where Eowyn figures out how old Aragorn must be, while he's forced to eat her awful stew. In RotK, there are several that stand out: when Gandalf and Pippin have that first view of Minas Tirith, the charge of the Rohirrim, Pippin and Gandalf having that little talk as they wait for the enemy to break the gate, Sam's fight with Shelob, and the scene where Sting sticks out of the Orc glowing blue, Frodo's scene about not being able to see anything but the wheel of fire--and most of all, the scene "My friends, you bow to no one!" *sigh* *beautiful*
3. What is your al tiime favourite piece of LOTR fanfiction?
Baylor's "The Care and Feeding of Hobbits", hands down.
4. How long have you been into LOTR and what brought you to it?
Since I was fifteen, and read the books for the first time. That's, oh, *almost* 38 years now. But as to fandom, that started about a year before the first movie came out, and I discovered the Tolkien newsgroups, rec.arts.books.tolkien and alt.fan.tolkien. I didn't discover fanfic though, until about a year and a half ago.
5. (also adopted from you, lol) Tell me some small detail of your everyday life that I don`t know?
When I am on my own for breakfast, I will usually eat a cheese sandwich and a glass of chocolate milk--at the computer.
