[livejournal.com profile] labourslamp and I had a rather lengthy IM conversation the other evening, in which we discussed why all of the adventures that must have taken place in Rivendell and Hollin got left out of the Red Book. We finally came to the conclusion that if Frodo had put all that in, just the first part of FotR before they got to Moria would be as long as all of the trilogy put together.

The result of the conversation was this bit of crack!fic in which we pay fond tribute to a good many of our favorite Quest gap-fillers. We posted it at [livejournal.com profile] hobbit_ficathon as it fulfills the February challenge of a conversation.

Take a look, have a laugh, and see how many stories you recognize!

I'm embarrassingly out of the loop with the fan fic knowledge, I guess, but they sound like fun plots! :D

They're fun plots if you can square them away with the idea that Frodo did not deem this particular tale worthy of inclusion. I'd always thought that that's because too little happened in those weeks, but the number of fanworks out there seems to imply that it was too much instead!
