In view of the dreadful news of the earthquake in Japan, and tsunami, the following scripture passage seems especially appropriate:

"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear thought the earth should change,
Though the mountains should shake in the heart of the sea;
though its waters roar and foam,
thought the mountains tremble with tumult.
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy habitations of the Most High.
God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved.
God will help her right early.
The nations rage, the kingdoms totter;
he utters his voice, the earth melts.
The Lord of hosts is with us.
The God of Jacob is our refuge.
Come, behold the works of the Lord,
how he has wrought desolations in the earth.
He makes wars cease to the end of the earth,
he breaks the bow, and shatters the spear, he burns the chariots with fire;
'Be still, and know that I am God
I am exalted among the nations, I am exalted in the earth!"
The Lord of Hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our refuge."

Psalm 46

Perfect promise to share today. Thank you.

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus' name.

When darkness hides His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace.
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.

His oath, His covenant, His blood
Support me in the whelming flood.
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay.

When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found,
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the Throne.

On Christ the Solid Rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.

Both Psalm 46 and this hymn are beautiful reminders that the only safety and security in this world is that in which we find our eternal security.

I hope the nuclear reactors don't melt down, which seems to be the next threat. Poor Japan!

Amen to both of you! Those are both very fitting verses for an occasion like this.

I cannot think of a better, more reassuring verse of Scripture after a day like today. And the hymn from [livejournal.com profile] ramblin_rosie as well... absolutely beautiful.
