It's Maundy Thursday. Which is to say, it's the day of Holy Week on which we remember the Last Supper. We had a very quiet, simple and moving service tonight, one which included song, foot-washing, and communion. After the service, we also had a brief time for refreshments in the Fellowship Hall.

I Corinthians 11: 23-26

"For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes."

I have always loved this portayal of the Last Supper. Our service entailed foot washing of a symbolic few to represent all, and also hand washing (water poured over our hands at the baptismal font) for any who desired it. We had communion as well, of course. So it got to be a little lengthy but still moving. The sermon had some very thought-provoking points, such as "basin theology" - which basin do you embrace? The one where Pilate washed his hands of the whole affair or the one where Christ humbled himself to serve his disciples?
