A day off!

I have a dr. appt. at 2, and knitting circle this evening, but I'm hoping to spend most of today working on my Big Bang stuff! I also need to catch up my laundry, which we neglected this weekend (the DH usually does it when I'm working while he's off, but this weekend he had lots of yard stuff to catch up on, so I have a veritable Pike's Peak of dirty clothes this morning.)

In other great news: my application for writer has been accepted by Demand Studio, so I am hoping to join [livejournal.com profile] dawn_felagund, [livejournal.com profile] pearltook1 and [livejournal.com profile] ceshaughnessy in earning a little extra money writing how-to articles.

And last night I had a hobbity dream: it started out with my family on a road trip. My husband and I, who were our present selves, and our son who was about 12 in the dream, were in a car driving on a mountain road. Now this is something I remember vividly from childhood, driving up and up on a two-lane asphalt highway over hairpin turns with steep pine-covered slopes on one side, and sheer drops into the mist on the other side. (Our family took frequent summer vacations to the Smokey Mountains in the late 50s and early 60s.) So the three of us pull over to one of those roadside parks that used to be around-- the sort that were little more than a wide spot on the side of the road with a picnic table, a metal BBQ grill and a rusty steel drum of a trashcan. We pull out our cooler and are setting up our meal, when we are joined by the four hobbits. We're happy to see them, and greet them like old acquaintances met by chance, and invite them to join us. We chattered away for a while as we ate our sandwiches, but I don't recall much of the conversation. I do think at one point we were talking of gardening, and Merry and Sam were giving me advice on how to increase my carrot yield-- *sigh* I'm sure it was very useful, but I don't remember a lick of it. After a while the dream morphed into something else, and the hobbits faded away. Still, it was nice to see them again...

I've been reading quite a few older fics lately. I just finished re-reading a wonderful series, and may make a separate post about it later on.

Oh, I bet Sam could give good gardening advice! Too bad you can't remember. *g*

Good luck with writing for Demand Studio.

Oh yay! Congrats on becoming a writer there!

Speaking of which, I seem to recall such a dream last night in a LotR setting (although I cannot recall such detail), who know, we've might met!

What a wonderful dream! *beams*

And what great news about the freelance writing. I hope it's a great experience.

It's too bad you can't remember the hobbity advice on gardening! Since we spend so much time asleep, we might as well benefit from any knowledge that comes our way!

I love the way you described the road trip and picnics from both the dream and from your memories. I remember similar journeys and roadside pull-overs from when I was a child. :)
