I promised to do this meme over a week ago. Now that the Big Bang is over I finally have time!

1. When did you start writing fanfiction?
I posted my first story in March of 2004. I had only discovered it in November of 2003 when there was a link to a story on SoA in a Tolkien forum I frequented.
2. Who is/are your favorite writer(s)?
Conventional or fanfic? Conventional, J.R.R. Tolkien, hands down. No other author even comes a close second for me.
For fanfic I have many favorites, too many to list, but I have to say the one whose WIP updates I look forward to the most are Elanor's updates of A Secret Gate. I love her style of writing, and each new chapter is a treat.
3. Have you ever been in Europe, and if yes, where? Yes, I went to Scotland for a moot to meet fellow LJers in 2007. Did you like it? It was amazing and beautiful and a wonderful experience, although it was very trying for me physically. I don't think I had ever before understood just how much walking would be involved!
4. What countries would you like to visit (that you haven't visited before)? New Zealand, definitely. I'd also like to visit the UK.
5. Favorite food? It's hard to pinpoint "a" favorite food; I have lots, but I'd say my favorite type of food is Italian—not just spaghetti or pizza, but lots of other things as well!

I had planned on coming with you to that moot but it wasn't possible. And I agree, Italian food is great, or Mediterranean food to me more precisely. Italian food is so much more than pizza and pasta. :)

Yes, LOL, I did mean "the rest of it", but wouldn't mind going back to Scotland, too, because there was so much of it I didn't get to see!

It was fun. I hope some people on my flist will let me ask them questions too!

(BTW: I don't use the phrase "original fic" much anymore; I prefer the term "conventional" to indicate fiction that's published in book form by publishers for money, as opposed to fanfic that's published on the web by authors for love. I think "original" is a loaded term.)

I don't know your health situation at all (with how it pertains to walking), but I have lived in Scotland on two different occasions in my life, and one thing that I actually appreciated was how much walking everyone does! It suited my personality WAY more than the car culture here in the US does! (Now again, I do realize I'm saying this from a very privileged POV from not having health issues that prevent me from freely walking). So when my sister came to visit me when I was there (and keep in mind my sister is 9 years younger than me), she actually complained BITTERLY about how much walking was involved and public transportation, etc. :D

I need to walk and exercise more than I do. But Scotland, wow! Perhaps it was that so much of it was uphill and downhill, but I was totally exhausted physically just about every time we went out.

OTOH, I was very proud of myself for not just collapsing!

Italian is always a great "go to" standby for me, as well. I can always find too many things to choose from in a good Italian restaurant. :)

Yes-- when given a choice when we go out, I almost always pick Italian. I was very disappointed when the Italian place here in town went under. Now we have to go out of town to find an Italian restaurant.

My dearest thanks for your lovely vote of confidence. It was a real picker-upper at a time I needed one, and I was just so pleasantly surprised! Just the motivation I need to push through these last chapters. Thank you so much! :)

As a person with fibromyalgia, I actually enjoyed the walking on our trip to the UK (I lost about 10 pounds and kept things moving!), and I loved the trains (we went up to Cambridge from London for a couple of days). Being U.S. westcoasters, our experiences with public transportation are limited, but England's rail system was excellent.

What captured my imagination more than anything, though, was the plumbing. We spent some time in two private homes and I discovered it was different in ways that are actually psychological! American plumbing (showers in particular) is geared to downtime and relaxation; the English bathtub (and hand-held shower) is all about invigoration! By the time you get out of there, you are definitely on the move and ready to go! No wonder they had an Empire, and a well-ordered one at that!

I always look forward so much to your story! To find a new chapter always adds a little lagniappe to my day, and I truly don't mind waiting for one.

I have to say, I never would have thought before I went that I could do that kind of walking. I lagged behind the others a lot, but I pretty much kept up.

These questions are so interesting! Thank you so much for linking to the Secret Gate, I never would have found it otherwise. I haven't read any fanfic in so long but this story instantly took me back to the times I most loved reading LotR stories and I can't wait to read more.

I'm also a huge fan of Italian food. I just wish I could cook it as much as I love eating it!

Scotland is wonderful, isn't it? I've only been once but hope to go back sometime.
