I can't find my keys. I know they are in the house, because I had to let myself in last evening and didn't go out again. I have two errands to run before I go to work at 2.

So far they have not been in any of their usual spots...

I have retraced my steps twice already.

Extremely frustrating until I finally figured out what happened! The DH had accidentally gone off today with BOTH sets of keys. He didn't realize what he'd done till he got off work himself tonight!

When I lose something I *know* I just used, it is usually God's way of getting me to clean the house...

LOL! Well this time no chance to clean-- only to tear up looking before I realized that I hadn't lost them at all...my husband had accidentally taken both sets of keys with him when he left for work himself.

Checked all those places. But it turns out it really was NOT my fault this time. The DH went off with both sets of keys without realizing it today.

I did that last weekend. They turned up under a dishtowel the next day. This is why I have spare housekeys, so that I can go out the door and come back when I absolutely need to.

I did, fortunately have a spare house key. But not a spare car key. The spare car key resides on my DH's key ring, and he had gone off with both sets of keys without realizing it.

I'd start looking in really offbeat places. The freezer, dish cabinets, under things, on top of the refrigerator. If you had pockets, you probably already checked them, but that's the first place I always think of. Did you put anything in the fridge, or did you put your dirty laundry in a basket or hamper? Look in the most unlikely spots.

I did all of those things before I suddenly realized what had happened. Not my fault actually-- the DH had picked them up by accident and gone off with them.

You must have put them someplace safe then. Time to check the unusual spots. Did you check the fridge/freezer? Laundry basket? Medicine cabinet? Dog bowl?

Actually I did check all those places before I realized what had happened. They had been exactly where I put them, and someone ELSE picked them up! And went off with them, never realizing what he'd done...

I hope by now you've found them. I once lost my keys and found them something like two YEARS later. They'd fallen into a gap in my desk chair lumbar cushion cover, of all things, and obviously a place I never looked!

at this point i open the front door and check the lock,... and yes at least twice i ahve gone to bed in my well locked house with my keys hanging in the lock on the outside of the door

They were located (see new post). I once drove several miles with the keys hanging out of the door of my truck. (I had two sets of keys at the time, and had used one to unlock the door and was driving iwth the other set.)
