I just finished my very first block of the month for the fis_bom's "There and Back Again" Challenge!

	Gandalf My very first paper-pieced quilt block, done for fis_bom's "There and Back Again" challenge.
	Gandalf Close-up Sorry for the glare in the corner. The block did not come out quite square, so I'm hoping I can fix that part. I plan to add some embellishment to it: add some of the flowers from the lower background so they come up a little bit against the sky, maybe embroider a few flowers as well for addition.
	Gandalf quote I did this Gandalf quote in calligraphy on a scroll background. I plan to shrink it down and then run it off the printer on printer-fabric, then applique it onto the block in one corner or another.

LOL! The calligraphy took me three tries to get right! But I'm pleased with how it came out! I just hope it will still be legible when I shrink it down.

Thanks! I do wish it had come out square, but considering that it's my first one, I'm just glad it came out well! The fabrics helped; I've been wanting to make a quilt for a while and bought that sky fabric and flower fabric a looong time ago in the hopes of it.

I'm going to try this too. I've bought the fabric and printed the pattern and read the tutorials. Then I moved all the sewing stuff to the new house and resurrected the machine. Hopefully soon (when I get over this bug) I'll get to start sewing!

I like your fabric choices - the blue hat especially. I haven't found quite the right hat fabric yet.

Forgot to say: I haven't done paper piecing before, but I've done some other quilting. I always leave a larger than specified allowance on all the outside edges so I can square it up when I'm finished.

I love the flower and sky fabric-- I bought it ages ago when I had my own ideas about a quilt, but never got to it. And the blue was lucky-- I only had a smidge of that leftover from a previous project--barely enough, but perfect for Gandalf's hat, and it was just dark enough to give contrast against the sky!

The mod PM'd me about that-- she said be sure to measure the pattern after printing it to make sure that the printer hasn't automatically "adjusted" the size.

I'm definitely going to give myself more of a seam allowance on the NEXT square!
