We had a great time tonight! Our son came over for supper and stayed to help us hand out candy. We all sat on the deck in front of the front porch, and the trick-or-treaters came up the ramp. We had three large paper grocery sacks filled with candy, and handed all of it out except for a couple of rolls of Smarties that I liberated, LOL!

The DH and I blew bubbles in between clusters of trick-or-treaters! There were lots of cute kids tonight, all of them fascinated with our lights and sound effects (we played a CD of Halloween spooky sounds on the front porch) and folks seemed to like our decorations! It was funny though, one little boy about three, plucked one of our solar landscape lights from the ground and was heading off with it before his mom saw what he'd done and brought it back. We were just sitting there laughing at it. We started about 6PM and came in about 8:30 when our candy ran out. Then we watched DWTS, which we'd DVR'd. Pics behind the cut!

This evening before it got dark This evening before it got dark We brought some of the inside porch decorations outside for the evening.
After dark After dark Now it's all lit up...
on the deck on the deck We clustered several decorations at the top of the steps-- they need to be repaired, so they discouraged trick-or-treaters from using them.
Our little Halloween doggie Our little Halloween doggie We bought him about five years ago. If you push a button on his paw, his red eyes flash and he moves his head and barks! He is supposed to be scary, but we think he's cute. Most of the little kids like him and want to pet him.
Closer view of decorations on the top step Closer view of decorations on the top step We also tied a string with glow sticks to keep people off the steps...

My son My son Said he was dressed up as "Sons of Anarchy" whatever that is...
Me Me Here I am in my Sea Wolves jersey. They were our semi-pro team in Mississippi, where we had season tickets. We still had the jerseys, so that's what we dressed up in tonight. I don't look much like a hockey player, LOL!

Your pumpkins are amazing. I had a couple of little trick or treaters with their parents. Luckily I'd bought some sweets.

I had 304 tricker treaters tonight. It was very cold here but they just kept coming.

WOW!!! 304??? I thought we were doing well - we had about 140 (we had a bag of candy with 350 pieces... and between me, DH and DS, we ate about 10, so...) That was with two houses in our neighborhood that really decorate up AND do sort of haunted house things, so we get a lot of people from outside the neighborhood.

But 304? REALLY??? PHEW!

Great pics and I love scary dog. I was working but I did hand out candy to our confirmation kids. It went quickly enough so I guess they liked it!

I'm giggling as I imagine that little 3 y/o helping himself to the garden lighting! LOL I guess he thought that looked more cool than the candy.

Love your hockey jersey!

What a great Halloween! I love your decorations. The Halloween doggie is cute in a macabre sort of way. Great photos of you and the DH (the picture of him peeking out from behind the pumpkin is esp. fun). Are you a hockey fan!?

Said he was dressed up as "Sons of Anarchy" whatever that is...

Heh. Mr. Pandë watches that. Ron Pearlman (Beauty and the Beast, Hellboy, Quest for Fire) stars. Basically a biker TV series from what I gather.

So. I planted mums and flowering cabbages in the containers on the front stoop. Rampaging Frodo had brought home two large pumpkins from western MA a week ago and he quickly carved them yesterday afternoon. They were lit when I got home. I opened the front gates of the white picket fence (hmmm, the pergola begs for spider webs and Shelobs scattered here and there). All looked welcoming. I had lots of candy at the ready. Lots.

We got 4, count 'em 4, trick or treaters! Sigh. I talked to Scott and Myra, our neighbors who brought 2 of the 4 trick or treaters over (their sons are darling) about the lack of kids. Scott said the action takes place on the street behind us! Rampaging Frodo said we needed a candy cannon to shoot Milky Ways and the like over there.

Now I have a metric ton of candy left.

I'm still not much of a fan of televised hockey, but given the chance I'd go to a live game in a shot. (I feel the same way about basketball, but not football or baseball-- I find them boring.)

Ooooh, yes!!! I got hooked on ice hockey when I was at the U.Wisc.-Madison. Even had season tickets for several years, right above the blue line. They had a stellar team then, and won the NCAA championship at least once while I was there. I love ice hockey (college hockey in particular) as a spectator sport, but not televised. It's really lacking then.

Re: donation to a nursing home. Yes! That's a great idea! Actually, there are a number of charitable endeavors the leftover (and unopened!) bags of candy to go to. Thanks for the suggestion!

Sounds like you had a great night and a lot of fun.

Hubby and I took turns answering the door and handing out the candy. In between times, we watched episodes of Angel on dvd. There was lots of nice scary growling sounds and screaming going (from the show) whenever we opened the door, LOL.

That little boy is hilarious! I had some really adorable little ones too!
