The DH and I had a rather startling experience today. We'd gone to the store this afternoon to pick up bread, milk, ice, etc. and were on our way home when we notice a little tow-headed toddler (probably about 18 months old) trotting up the middle of the street!!!

At the same time we pulled over and I got out to see about him, a truck coming in the other direction did the same, and a young couple in a nearby house also came out. None of us knew where the child had come from, so we called the police.

While we waited, a young man came running up in a panic. It was the daddy-- the child had been in a fenced back yard, and he'd gone to get something out of the house-- he was only gone a minute and the child was gone! He was very relieved to find his baby! They lived about a block over and by a different street altogether. Fortunately the street he was in the middle of was a quiet residential street with little traffic-- but sometimes people DO speed on that street!

As for the child, all he had to say was "I go to my house!" LOL!

Wow, that father was incredibly lucky. The child could so easily have been hit by a car or picked up by the wrong person. Thank goodness you guys saw him!

I wonder if the daddy will tell the mother what happened. "Dear... I just found our child a block away, walking down the middle of the street!" The poor woman will probably faint.

Oh, goodness! That's scary enough to give anyone a heartattack! I'm glad the kid was okay and that the dad found hiim. But what a scare. I'd be all shaken up after something like that.

*hugs*

holy crap!!!!! That little boy (and his father) are so very lucky indeed!

My mom lost Miss Rose in an elevator in a hospital (when her sister was born). She spaced for second, stepped out of the elevator to grab something she had forgotten or do something and when she realized the error and turned around in horror, the elevator doors had already closed and Miss Rose was alone in the elevator. They called a "code pink" (?) and locked down the hospital, but it was so very scary and I'm glad I only found out about it after the fact!

Oh that poor father! I think every parent has had that moment of "my back was turned for only a minute" experience. Sooo glad that it turned out well in the end.

As for the child, all he had to say was "I go to my house!" LOL!

LOL! For him it was all a big adventure, sounds like! The next Indiana Jones!

I've definitely had "My back was turned for a moment" experiences with Rampaging Frodo and Thuringwethil II, but fortunately, the outcome was good, like this little boy's was. Thankfully. I love the kid's declaration. :^D
