Ok, today on "Mark Reads", the chapter was "Shelob's Lair", and Mark was appropriately freaked-out about it!

But one of the commenters, "Icarus" said this:

Wait. If Sauron sends prisoners to Shelob to be "played with" and eaten, and Gollum was captured and tortured by Sauron...

... did Sauron send Gollum to Shelob to be eaten, and then Gollum:

a) was too stringy to interest her
b) promised her other, tastier meat

... and that's how he escaped Mordor?

Somebody PLEASE write that plotbunny! That is just too awesome an idea to go to waste!

I hope you find someone for that bunny. I could never write a spider. (shiver) They scare the daylights out of me. Now, if Gollum had made a deal with some sheep, I might be up to that one...

Trying to wrap my mind around whose POV this would be. We were never given either Gollum's or Shelob's POV - that would be hard!

Fascinating bunny! I think i would tackle that by using a dialogue that Shelob and Gollum had and it would be a short ficlet....i may have to tackle sometime! I love the bunny! =)
