International Tolkien Reading Day

Is technically not until tomorrow. However, our library is closed on Sunday, and so we are having it today here.
My idea, but taken up with enthusiasm by the librarian, who is by way of a friend, since I know her also from our Monday evening knitting circle. Still, I'm nervous as to whether anyone will come-- it was not terribly well-publicized. (A teeny little paragraph on the last page of our towns teeny little twice-a-week newspaper; sad to say, that's more publicity than most activities of this sort get around here.) And a flyer that I made. So I am unsure as to how many refreshments to bring: we put "refreshments at elevenses and tea" on the flyer.
I made some scones, and will be taking some little pimento cheese sandwiches and deviled eggs (which I need to go make in a few minutes: eggs are boiled already.) and some scones I made yesterday: golden raisin and dried cranberry. Taking teabags (for those who want hot tea) and picking up some lemonade at Braum's (for those who prefer something cold). Probably some cookies, too. I'd planned to make a seed cake, but discovered too late that I don't have poppy seeds. I could have sworn I had some poppy seeds among my spices...*sigh*. That's all I can do, as our budget is teensy.
Anyway, the hubby's off to work, and at 9AM I will be at the library. PLEASE send lots of hobbity vibes towards Cushing, OK today, so that many people will suddenly get the urge to go to the library and read about Bilbo Baggins' Adventure!
OTOH, this means another day of running behind on my B2Mem prompts, and I have to work tomorrow to make up for taking today off. So I will miss Palm Sunday at church...

I'll keep all fingers crossed the Tolkien Reading day celebration is a complete success!

Date: 2012-03-25 09:56 pm (UTC)But by two in the afternoon, the last of them had to leave for work. We got as far as Rivendell, though.
Just before I was ready to give up and leave, a little toddler came over, and he wanted to know about "the Dragon" (several of the copies of the book featured Smaug on the cover) so instead of reading to him, I just told him a little of the story. Alas, his parents did not want to wait around for "teatime", so I packed it in and came home.

Date: 2012-03-25 09:58 pm (UTC)I didn't have a huge crowd, but it wasn't a total flop, anyway. The weather was too pretty outside to draw many people inside to the library! But I had a few, for a while.
