The Jimmy Stewart version of Destry Rides Again is immensely better than the Audie Murphy version, mainly due to the incomparable Marlene Dietrich.

Just thought I'd say that.

Gonna put that one on my Netflix list! I love Marlene. My partner and I have pretty much ceased watching any movie made after about 1949.

Some of the old ones are wonderful. I do like a lot of the newer movies, but some of the old ones will never be surpassed. And I see a lot of the old Westerns because that's what my husband loves.

(My husband and I were dreadfully disappointed not to be able to find "1776" (the 1972 movie musical) anywhere this year. Can't get it on Netflix as we are having technical difficulties with them, and nothing available in the one and only video store in town.)

Oh yes, Westerns... I should have moved the date up to sometime in the '60s, because my partner will watch just about any Western again, especially Clint Eastwood ones, even though he's seen them hundreds of times. Not sure about Destry though.

Musicals -- you're on your own with that one. ;)

I've heard of others with Netflix problems, and also heard that Hulu works quite well. (But it looks like they don't have "1776" there, either.)
