Just a bit of squee (behind the cut out of consideration for my friends who are not like-minded politically)...

For the first time in a while, I am feeling politically hopeful! The DNC is going great, and between the First Lady's speech last night, and President Clinton's speech tonight I'm excited and energized.

And President Clinton is as awesome and charismatic a speaker as I recall from years ago! Wow, what a speach! ("Arithmetic"! LOL!)

Both speeches were awesome. Michelle is amazing and hers was such a great speech--the personal as political indeed.

But, I am glad that when Bill talked about his instigating welfare reform, he got a cool reception and some booing--he deserves that. And right now, as my unemployment is running out and I've been working as hard as I can applying for jobs, and I'm scared about making my rent in the coming months, I'm feeling my anger about what Bill did there a little more personally these days. Compromise is necessary, but not when it's made on the backs of the most vulnerable--that's when you keep working on the grounds of the argument until it takes at a different spot. But as an indictment of what the Republican Congress has been up to, it is spot on. And I have much more faith in the Obama's and Bill's very busy wife, so I'm very glad the rest of his speech was right on target.

Yes, I love how both his speech and the First Lady's refuted the self-made man myth the Republicans love and promoted the need for community, care-taking, altruism, and concern for future generations. I'm so happy to see the Dems taking this up as a theme. It does give me hope.

I'm a week behind on Daily Show and haven't seen any other news except that people generally thought Michelle rocked the house. So I don't know specifics. But glad you are feeling hopeful!

THis is a week I sort of wish I had t.v. again -- I've heard Michelle Obama was amazing. I am going to look for clips of her speech!

So far the DNC has made me hopeful for a Democratic win in November. It was wonderful to hear Clinton speak again. :D
