Snowflake Meme, Days 1,2 and 3

Day 1
In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.
Remember that we're using the term fanwork in the broadest sense of the word here - things like episode guides, meta, canon timelines, thematic lists, recs, fandom overviews, picspams, discussion posts, etc totally count.
1. My favorite WIP: "Eleventy-One Years: Too Short a Time, Book One"
I have been having so much fun with this. So far as I know, no one has ever written a comprehensive biography of Bilbo, and so this is pretty ambitious. In the first half I'm covering his life from birth to the time he goes off on his Adventure. Then I plan to take up when he comes back, until he leaves for Rivendell. (As I said, "Eleventy-One Years"). I've had a lot of headcanon about Bilbo that I am at last getting a chance to explore, and I am also getting a chance to fill in not only JRRT's gaps, but some of my own.

2. My big AU Crossover, The Gate to Everywhere http://www.lotrgfic.com/viewstory.php?sid=1810
This is a crossover between AU LotR/Narnia, and I sat on it for a long time before finishing it up a couple of years ago for the GFIC Big Bang. Mostly because I'd like more feedback on it, and also because of Armariel's awesome artwork.
3. My website for The Hobbit fic, Off Into the Blue for Mad Adventure
http://offintotheblue.weebly.com/
This has links to as much TH fic posted prior to 2012 as I could possibly find. I still hope to add a few more if I can find them.
I hope to add another page of 2012 fic written pre-release, and then for post movie fic, but haven't had a chance yet.
Day 2
In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you did not create. Drop a link to your post in the comments. See if you can rec fanworks that are less likely to be praised: tiny fandoms, rare pairings, fanworks other than stories, lesser known kinks or tropes. Find fanworks that have few to no comments, or creators new to a particular fandom and maybe aren't well known or appreciated. Appreciate them.
Well, Grey Wonderer took one of my LotR fanfic recs (I'd like to second her rec of Elanor's "A Secret Gate"), so I decided to go with something different, and rec some non-Tolkien fic:
1. Mariole's "The Space Between Us"
http://mariole.livejournal.com/105823.html
This story is an amazing RPF about the Beatles in 1966—it's an AU, in which a lone-wolf assassin tries to shoot them during a concert. There follows an amazingly well-researched set of plausible reactions, given the times that the story is set in. As one who was 14 in 1966, I can recall those times all too well, and Mariole has managed to capture the paranoia, the violence, and yet the innocence of the times. We were much less "savvy" about the press and public relations 46 years ago, and she shows that. She did a brilliant job of it, and considering the historical basis behind it all, it could easily be a "traditionally published" work. Much more deserving than some fanfics that have been picked up by publishers in the past and had the serial numbers scraped off. This would need no scraping at all.
An amazing story, well-deserving of a read, even if RPF (this is NOT, BTW, RPS) is not your usual cup of tea! And I noticed she hasn't received comments since it was a WIP…
2. The Queen Who Fell to Earth by Bobmin356
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7591040/1/The-Queen-who-fell-to-Earth
A crossover of Harry Potter and Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern, it interrupts the HP canon in the beginning of the Triwizard Tournament, when Harry inadvertently impresses a young dragon during the first trial. What follows is very plausible, considering the abilities of Pern dragons and the foibles of the Wizarding World. (Warning: author is rather hard on Snape, if you like him, and many favorite canon characters are not included in the story.) What I find fascinating is the way the author deals with the pesky questions of things like the interface between the Wizarding World and the muggle world, and with things like the racism of the Wizard's society, as well as its oppression. There are politics in this story—and not just as a plot device. There is also a sequel, incomplete, but about 15 chapters in, so far.
(BTW, I kind of ignore the silly "disclaimers" at the beginning, but others might find them funny.)
3. Woe is Me by Anso
Anso the Hobbit used to post some great Merry h/c; she later went on to specialize in Stargate-1 fanfic, with some nice Daniel h/c.
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6415322/1/Woe-To-Thee
If you are at all familiar with the original Stargate, then this is a lot of fun; so great world-building, and some wonderful OCs, plus great relationships between the members of the original SG team. The mystery is intriguing as well. Anso is an ESL writer, but you would scarcely be able to tell that if you did not already know. And Daniel gets lots of comfort in this h/c.
Day 3
Comment to someone you haven't ever interacted with before or introduce yourself to someone you've interacted with and friend/follow them. Afterwards, leave a comment in this post with the equivalent of "I did it!"
Some of you have been checking out other participant's recs and self-recs from the Day 1 and Day 2 posts. If you've interacted with anyone new, you can absolutely count that for Day 3!
I did it.

Can anyone tell me why my first cut did not work? I thought I highlighted 1, 2 and 3, but it only cut 1.

Date: 2013-01-04 03:33 am (UTC)I read that one of Anso's and loved it. It's a very good SG1 story and she was posting it just as I was getting into SG so that was fun.
I have always meant to read Mariole's "The Space Between Us". Now, I plan to save your link and give that one a go. I have been a Beatles fan since I was nine or so and it might be entertaining to read a fic about them.
