As I was watching the coverage of the events in Boston, our OKC channel broke away from the national news to cover the memorial events for the OKC bombing of the Murrow building 18 years ago today.

A sad reminder of just how long horrible things have been happening, and then just keep on happening...

Weather disasters and horrific accidents are bad enough. But realizing just how cruel people can be to other people, over and over and over...

Well, it's been going on since the world began. But somehow it seems more awful now, perhaps because we know about it as soon as it happens, and see it in detail.

Oh my gosh, has it been 18 years???? It seems like yesterday! That was the beginnign of so much. How much sadder our world is, but hopefully wiser, too.
Hugs,
Rach

It is frightening, and here in Boston and surrounding areas, we are very much on edge. But I do take heart from comedian Patton Oswalt's sentiments:

Boston. F---ing horrible.

I remember, when 9/11 went down, my reaction was, “Well, I’ve had it with humanity.”

But I was wrong. I don’t know what’s going to be revealed to be behind all of this mayhem. One human insect or a poisonous mass of broken sociopaths.

But here’s what I DO know. If it’s one person or a HUNDRED people, that number is not even a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a percent of the population on this planet. You watch the videos of the carnage and there are people running TOWARDS the destruction to help out. (Thanks FAKE Gallery founder and owner Paul Kozlowski for pointing this out to me). This is a giant planet and we’re lucky to live on it but there are prices and penalties incurred for the daily miracle of existence. One of them is, every once in awhile, the wiring of a tiny sliver of the species gets snarled and they’re pointed towards darkness.

But the vast majority stands against that darkness and, like white blood cells attacking a virus, they dilute and weaken and eventually wash away the evil doers and, more importantly, the damage they wreak. This is beyond religion or creed or nation. We would not be here if humanity were inherently evil. We’d have eaten ourselves alive long ago.

So when you spot violence, or bigotry, or intolerance or fear or just garden-variety misogyny, hatred or ignorance, just look it in the eye and think, “The good outnumber you, and we always will.”

The more things change, the more they stay the same, it seems. I hadn't realized it'd been 18 years.

I do think a lot of it is that we hear about it all. It used to be folks hardly heard what happened in the other states, let alone cities and other countries. Now, we hear all sorts of stuff from everywhere.

Also, pandemonium is right.

The news media (everywhere not just here) hypes the horrible and plays down or ignores the good. In each instance, no matter what the horrible event, no matter if it's natural or manmade, there are always people running toward the trouble to help. Professionals and just everyday folks moving to help those in need. We need to never, ever forget that. Most people care. Most people give comfort. Most people never do anything horrible.

Many hugs and lots of love to you, m'dearest Dreamflower!

I remember the Oklahoma City bombing like it was yesterday.

So many frightening and cruel things in the world. I don't consider these people human who do these things. It's like their souls have been torn from them.

**sends you a lot of hugs**
