It looks like I *will* be riding it out, after all. We can't find anyplace for me to go where I can safely take the dogs. It's too hot to be leaving them in the backseat of the truck as I did in Sept. last year. And I don't intend to leave the girls alone, they are far too terrified of storms. [livejournal.com profile] coneygoil kindly offered me to come to her place, but it's not that far from the coast, and, again it wouldn't be a good idea to take my dogs over there. She and her parents are so kind to offer, though.

Jim's not happy about it. But I told him frankly that I would be more scared of staying alone in a strange place than of sitting through the storm in my own place.

If I'm lucky, it will go to the east of us, and we won't have too much trouble. Of course that means it hits someone else. 8-(

In the meanwhile, I work tomorrow, because they won't be told if the store closes until sometime tomorrow afternoon. And when I get home, we'll batten down the hatches before DH has to report in to the hospital. I'm far more scared for him than I am for me. He will only be a block from the beach.

I thank all of you for your good wishes. ((((((hugs flist tightly)))))
I plan to haunt my LJ until the power/cable go out. So you will probably get a blow by blow.

And in the meanwhile, I may be able to get up another chapter of "Road to Edoras" and of "Chance Encounter".

[livejournal.com profile] marigoldg I didn't get hold of your Mom today. I don't know if she'd rather go to a shelter or come here. She'd probably be more comfortable here if all goes well, but a shelter might be safer.

You know what's *really* frightening? This is only *July*. The peak of the season is not till September.
Think about it.

Oh dear, I forgot about your dogs. We have a kennel, but that's out doors and that wouldn't work! Well, stay safe! The offer still stands if you need to leave!

Oh, do take care! I've been watching the weather and right now, to my untrained eyes, the storm looks like it might be trying to take the same path Ivan took last year. I'm glad you're going to stay online as much as possible. Less worry for us that way. And try not to worry too much about DH. While it's true he'll be only a block from the beach, I'm sure the hospital is safer than most other buildings he could be in. Many hospitals double as storm shelters. At least they do around here.

You are so sweet to be looking after [livejournal.com profile] marigoldg's Mom. I know that's a great comfort to her. I'm sure you'll be able to get hold of her tomorrow.

No! Don't feel like a monster. Feel lucky. It could easily be you. I feel bad for everyone who lives on the Gulf Coast right now. I'm even worried for [livejournal.com profile] shirebound and that whole group who are meeting in Houston as we speak. Even though I know the chances of the storm hitting the Texas coast are almost non-existant.

I hope you and Sissy and Sugar and James will be safe and dry during all of this. It was sweet of cneygoil and her family to offer you a place to stay but I do see why you would want to stay in your own place if at all possible. Do keep us posted for as long as you can. Thinking good thoughts about sunny days for you while I work on the plot bunny that Pooka brought with him on his journey to my house. Somehow, I think a small storm is about to hit Fredegar.....

Hang in there! I'd offer a spot in my own home, but that would be one heckuva drive for you... and I have my own dog and three (well, six) cats to worry over. From our local weatherguy, he's pretty sure Dennis will pass over us like Cindy did. just a day's worth of rain and not much more than that.

With any luck at all, Dennis could lose power before landfall, or he could bounce around a bit before going away entirely. Besides which, Dennis ain't no Camille.

Holy ... has the world gone insane? So much misery, death.. Mother Nature seems grumpy about something. Stay safe dearest, with your dogs, Marigold's mum (I think regarding that you are truly the greatest)... On this side of the globe everything seems so peaceful, but even I know it is just a facade.
