Does anyone know if SoA is down?

My computer had a virus, and I was online and on the phone with Norton all afternoon getting it de-bugged. Unfortunately, the tech person had to de-install Firefox, which put me back to IE as my main (only actually only) browser, and wiped out my favorites; trying to get SoA back on the list and none of the links are working for me. I don't know if it's down, or if it's just me.

Bother viruses! I'm sorry you're having to deal with one.

SoA seems to be up and running for me, checking it from my phone.

If you need any links to favorites, some of us might have them. Sorry to hear about the virus!

Yeah, it works for me too. And I'm really sorry to hear about your computer woes! Especially since you lost all of your favorites, that's always such a pain.

(Also, get rid of IE as your default browser as soon as you can -- if you need any help with getting Firefox installed again then please let me know, I would be happy to walk you through anything you needed. Friends don't let friends default their browser to IE. >.>)

Unwanted spam links, pop-up ads and videos and redirects, it sounds like that very well could have been related to the virus you had. Of course I use adblock plus as one of my addons so that could keep me from having to deal with those things. Dunno!

It seems to be fine for me. I don't get along well with Firefox, I use Chrome for most of my browser work, so you may want to try Chrome and see if you have more success.

I tried Firefox several times and was never happy. Chrome loads quickly, was really easy for me to understand and organize, and it's become my go-to browser. I have IE as a back-up because I have one or two programs that require it, but for everything else, including LJ, I use Chrome.

Works fine for me, but it's been a while since you posted already. I'm very sorry to hear about your computer, though! Did the guy also delete all your personal files and app data? If not, the bookmark file can be rescued and even re-imported.
Which Windows do you have? Perhaps I can help you with finding the profile again; otherwise just search for "bookmarks.html" on your system drive and see if something pre-virus comes up. You can open this page like a regular page in any browser and see if something of what you miss is there.

If you're using Firefox, I can also recommend using the sync function, as then all your favourites and whatever you choose will be stored also on the sync server, and you can get it easily back. I started to use this when I was starting to use two different computers, but found the additional advantage of having this backup very handy. The downside is only that when you're also storing sensible data, like important passwords or more (for shopping, for example, or banking, email, whatever) you should use a secure password for the sync, which means you need to type this every time your browser opens.

Do you need any links I might have?
