Question for my flist

As you may recall, I was able to write a Cormallen fic, Waking Day for shirebound for the Yule Fic exchange at lotr_community this year. And way back in 2004 I also wrote a Cormallen fic, "Kingly Gifts" for Marigold's Challenge #6.

After I posted "Waking Day" at the archives a reader PM'd me and we had a bit of discussion on how the former fit in with the latter, and I mentioned that maybe one day in the distant future I'd try to see how the two stories would go together--though it would not be something I'd have time for anytime soon. She eagerly offered to do that for me, with my permission.

Well, she did a very nice job with that, and I think it could be posted; but if I do, it will need a new title, wouldn't it? And how would readers react to a "new" story that is not actually "new" at all. And should I try to add more to it?

How about calling it "Cormallen remix" or something similar. There's quite a few challenges in some of my fandoms where people rewrite fics from other points of view or alter them in other ways and that is usually signalled by adding the word "remix" to the end of the title. :)

The thing is, "remix" usually refers to remixing someone else's stories. I don't want to mislead anyone.

Definitely a new title IMHO, and I strongly second the "remix" suggestion. I also know remixes as a fannish writing art form.

Yes, but it usually involves remixing another person's story.

I'm pretty sure of the need for a new title as well--but my brain is not coming up with anything yet.

It's still technically a remix, and you could state in a note what is different about that one. I quite like the suggestion above of "Cormallen remix" - what about "Cormallen reMix" or "Cormallen re-mix" to make it clear that it is also a mix of two works? Of course, I don't know enough how the two stories are mixed, and don't know them yet, so this might not work at all.

Fusion is actually a fanfiction that merges two or more fandoms, which doesn't sound lime what you've got here.
