HP stuff, totally spoiler free
Jul. 17th, 2005 12:54 amWell, tonight the DH and I went out to supper at Waffle House, and then went to pick up our HP at Barnes & Noble, amid all the hype.
I've never been to one of those things before, and it was fun seeing all the kids--and a lot of adults--in costume, and the different activities they had going on. We had to get a bracelet with a number on it to pick up our pre-ordered book. I ran into a lot of folks I know--at least three other members of the Barony, some of my customers from Michaels--it was really fun.
I also bought a new issue of "Threads"--there's some good articles in there this month--the one on piping looks very useful. I love the look of piping, but the few times I've tried to use it, I ended up getting it in very unevenly.
But you know what's funny? I don't know that I'm in any hurry to actually *read* the book. It's been over a year since I have read *ANY* non-LotR or Tolkien related fiction. And I'm not sure I want to now; I thoroughly have hobbits on the brain, and I'm not too certain I want to switch to kid-wizards and Hogwarts yet, even for just one book. Maybe I'll let the DH read it first.

Date: 2005-07-16 06:49 am (UTC)I don't have the HP book yet, but I look forward to it being beside all the others in my book closet... ;-) After I read it, of course. ;-)

Date: 2005-07-16 11:19 am (UTC)No, between re-reading Tolkien, and reading fanfic, I'm just not in the mood to travel to anyone else's world besides Middle-earth. I have two or three other books by authors I've always enjoyed, including an Anne McCaffrey--and I've yet to crack them open. I'm sure this will pass eventually, but I'm reluctant, almost like I'm afraid my stories will dry up if I let something alien in, LOL!

Date: 2005-07-16 11:22 am (UTC)I will probably miss mine when the Free Family Events come out. Those sorts of promotions are usually a hoot for the employees.

Date: 2005-07-16 01:47 pm (UTC)I wish I was still able to have that much focus on the hobbits, I'm feelinga a bit stretched these days, trying to do too much, ficwise. Maybe a HP break is just what I need to refresh my creative juices. :D

Date: 2005-07-16 07:43 pm (UTC)The HP party *was* fun. Neither my DH nor I had ever been to anything like that before, so it was a real hoot. I felt sorry for the poor employees though; some of them were beginning to sound stressed and cranky as midnight approached, and they kept having to announce over and over: "All non-Harry Potter purchases must be completed by 11:30!" "ONLY Harry Potter will be sold after midnight!" "You and your party MUST leave after making your purchase!" Poor things. I suppose they are glad that there is only one more book left in the series, and they have at least a year to recover from this one.
Anyway, he's got the book this weekend, and sooner or later I will probably read it too. But I'm in no hurry...
