Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Jul. 25th, 2005 09:37 pmThe DH and I went to see it this afternoon. I really liked it a lot--not *better* than the first one, but easily as well. The special effects were definitely better, and I liked this Charlie and his family better. However, I must say, I will always prefer the Oompa-Loompa songs from the first one, even though these were based more on the book. I really liked the effect though, of the "cloned" Oompa-Loompas, though it creeped my husband out. Both Johnny Depp and Gene Wilder came up with brilliant interpretations of the strange and wonderful Willie, each appropriate for his own generation.
The trailers were awesome: King Kong, Goblet of Fire and Corpse Bride all look so very promising!!
Tim Burton is amazing: how is it that he takes the macabre and morbid, and somehow makes it come out warm and fuzzy? Or takes the warm and fuzzy and gives it a macabre and morbid edge? I don't know anyone else who can *do* that!
You know the scariest thing: matinee tickets for the two of us--$10. Two bottles of water and a dinky bag of M&Ms--$10.

Date: 2005-07-25 07:06 am (UTC)But OH! A trailer already for Goblet of Fire?? I just finished reading Half-Blood Prince. I'm SO ready for the next movie, though it's a few books behind... ;-)

Date: 2005-07-25 07:52 am (UTC)The reason why I never read this book as a child was that my mom said no to buying my own copy, since my brother owned the book already. I could borrow it from him, so she reasoned, but he never ever wanted to lend it to anyone. Soo now I am going to read it once I am done with my current book.

He's an amazingly creative guy. And creepy. Very very creepy. You have to just wonder what goes on in his head, lol.

Date: 2005-07-25 01:21 pm (UTC)Here the matinee tickets are (on average) $7 apiece and $12 for the evening. Which is why I'm very choosy about which movies I see in theaters, I can't afford to go regularly!

Date: 2005-07-25 02:49 pm (UTC)A GOF trailer! Was it a teaser or a full length trailer? I hate teasers.

Date: 2005-07-28 03:18 pm (UTC)It was a teaser, a short trailer--but it showed some good stuff.

Date: 2005-07-25 04:47 pm (UTC)When the Corpse Bride trailer came on the screen, I seriously thought it was the beginning of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, mostly because most, if not all of the actors, listed are in C&tCF, too. But it does look interesting.

Date: 2005-07-28 03:21 pm (UTC)Tim Burton does use a lot of the same people, doesn't he? If "Corpse Bride" is half so cute as "Nightmare Before Christmas" I am sure I will love it. (I *splorked* at the line with the dog skeleton, saying "You should have seen him with fur.")
