The DH and I went to see it this afternoon. I really liked it a lot--not *better* than the first one, but easily as well. The special effects were definitely better, and I liked this Charlie and his family better. However, I must say, I will always prefer the Oompa-Loompa songs from the first one, even though these were based more on the book. I really liked the effect though, of the "cloned" Oompa-Loompas, though it creeped my husband out. Both Johnny Depp and Gene Wilder came up with brilliant interpretations of the strange and wonderful Willie, each appropriate for his own generation.

The trailers were awesome: King Kong, Goblet of Fire and Corpse Bride all look so very promising!!

Tim Burton is amazing: how is it that he takes the macabre and morbid, and somehow makes it come out warm and fuzzy? Or takes the warm and fuzzy and gives it a macabre and morbid edge? I don't know anyone else who can *do* that!

You know the scariest thing: matinee tickets for the two of us--$10. Two bottles of water and a dinky bag of M&Ms--$10.

I just watched the Gene Wilder version again, and to tell you the truth, I feel like he's a lot more... dangerous... than Depp's Willy Wonka.

I loved the new Oompa Loompas too, though, although I quite agree on the songs. But visually, and movement wise these were absolutely brilliant. Deep Roy ought to get nominated for an Oscar.

I really liked the vulnerable side of Willy Wonka. The backstory with his father was great, and I loved Charlie and his family in this version a lot more than in the original. It was a great film.

I plan to see it this week, I think (though I said that last week), so thank you for the review! I will miss the Oompa-loompa songs, though--love the original ones. Even though they do get stuck in my head something awful, lol!

Cinema prices are extortionate these days

I don't normally take a drink, because liquid just goes right through me and I keep needing the toilet all the time. I do like having nachos though :-)

I haven't yet seen the movie, but maybe I will get it when it comes to video. :-)

But OH! A trailer already for Goblet of Fire?? I just finished reading Half-Blood Prince. I'm SO ready for the next movie, though it's a few books behind... ;-)

I never read the book, but I did see the trailer of the movie while I was in London (the day before the attacks), the day after I decided to buy the book, but this book now comes with the memories of July the 7th and the evacuation of our train station. Hmm weird how memories slip in this post, you most likely don't wanna know. *this useless comment was brought to you by Rhapsody*

The reason why I never read this book as a child was that my mom said no to buying my own copy, since my brother owned the book already. I could borrow it from him, so she reasoned, but he never ever wanted to lend it to anyone. Soo now I am going to read it once I am done with my current book.

One of the things I love about the theater out here, it is cheap. Well, at least admission is. Only six dollars for an evening show and four dollars for a matinee. Even the concession stand is a little cheaper than elsewhere. It's a nice experience.

Tim Burton is amazing: how is it that he takes the macabre and morbid, and somehow makes it come out warm and fuzzy? Or takes the warm and fuzzy and gives it a macabre and morbid edge?

He's an amazingly creative guy. And creepy. Very very creepy. You have to just wonder what goes on in his head, lol.

I know, it's bad enough for a single person to go to the movies, much less a family.

I thought Chocolate Factory was a great, fun movie. I loved the Oompa Loompas and Johnny Depp, and just adored Charlie. Freddie Highmore is such a talented young actor.

Here the matinee tickets are (on average) $7 apiece and $12 for the evening. Which is why I'm very choosy about which movies I see in theaters, I can't afford to go regularly!

Tis why I skip the consession stand. Movie tickets are way too much. Even the cheap theater in the town below us is $5 for the early bird special now.

A GOF trailer! Was it a teaser or a full length trailer? I hate teasers.

Concession prices are the reason I always take a large purse and sneak food into the theatre. It's much cheaper that way.

When the Corpse Bride trailer came on the screen, I seriously thought it was the beginning of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, mostly because most, if not all of the actors, listed are in C&tCF, too. But it does look interesting.
