Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Jul. 25th, 2005 09:37 pmThe DH and I went to see it this afternoon. I really liked it a lot--not *better* than the first one, but easily as well. The special effects were definitely better, and I liked this Charlie and his family better. However, I must say, I will always prefer the Oompa-Loompa songs from the first one, even though these were based more on the book. I really liked the effect though, of the "cloned" Oompa-Loompas, though it creeped my husband out. Both Johnny Depp and Gene Wilder came up with brilliant interpretations of the strange and wonderful Willie, each appropriate for his own generation.
The trailers were awesome: King Kong, Goblet of Fire and Corpse Bride all look so very promising!!
Tim Burton is amazing: how is it that he takes the macabre and morbid, and somehow makes it come out warm and fuzzy? Or takes the warm and fuzzy and gives it a macabre and morbid edge? I don't know anyone else who can *do* that!
You know the scariest thing: matinee tickets for the two of us--$10. Two bottles of water and a dinky bag of M&Ms--$10.
