Frodo from "Merry`s Milestone": How bad was it really?

Because I was thinking about that story today. :)

Frodo: "Looking back on it now, it was not, perhaps so bad. It's rather amusing in fact, to be able to make Merry blush. All I have to do is mention 'Aunt Dora' and 'tea' in the same sentence and he goes red as a ripe tomato. At the time, however--let us say that it was really rather ripe. A faunt has nearly as prodigious an appetite as a tweenager, and being smaller, the output is greater, if you catch my meaning."

LOL! Thank you Frodo! I can clearly understand how difficult it must be to make Merry blush. I do think you`re enjoying the fact that you know what to say if you want him to blush then. :D

Opal, Amethyst and Garnet are glad to answer your question.

Opal: "I really don't recall much about it; I was in too much pain and in and out of consciousness for a long time. I only slowly came to the realization that Mother was not there, and I found myself feeling relieved, rather than sad."
Garnet: "We all grew up rather terrified of Mother, truth be told. But we never doubted her words; no one else bothered to ever tell us different while we were young."
Amethyst: "I am afraid that we never listened to our father. I can vaguely remember him trying to teach us things when we were little, about sharing and being considerate, but Mother would just pour scorn all over it, and tell us his ideas were foolish."
(Opal nods her head.)
Garnet: "One thing she always stressed to us was how important it was to attract the right sort of husband."
(Amethyst snorts)
Amethyst: "She would throw us at anything in breeches, if there were enough money and status attached."
Opal: "And she never failed to pick at Pippin. She always called him stupid, foolish, a weakling. I remember that night he got so sick when the Bankses got him drunk. Father went down to the Thain's study to keep an eye on them, and she came into the apartments smiling and humming."
Garnet: "But after she was banished, while Opal was recovering, everyone was so kind to us. No one had ever really shown us much kindness before--we probably would have mocked them if they had. And then everyone came to see Opal, and they were nice to us. It didn't take long until we could see how awful we'd been all our lives."
Opal: "Especially Prince Legolas and Cousin Frodo..."
Garnet: "And Rosie and Marigold..."
Amethyst: "And Pearl. Pearl really was very helpful to us later, and showed us some things that we were really embarassed when we began to see how we must have looked to others..."
Opal: "And we finally got to know Father better, and know that he was nothing like what Mother had always said. We began to realize everything she'd ever told us was a pack of lies..."
Garnet: "Mother had fooled a lot of people into thinking she was only silly and harmless. We knew all along how scary she was, but it wasn't till she was gone, that we realized she was also wrong about everything."
