After the bulldozer finished with our yard, the DH and I met his sister at the recently re-opened Whataburger for lunch. Afterwards, he and I drove out to Hancock County to deliver Nina's share of the hobbit_aid. She was so glad to see us; we visited for a while and talked about hobbits, fics and LOST and kittens. (She has four of the cutest little things, only 6 weeks old, born just a day or so after the storm.)

That is pretty much what things looked like for anyone in Bay St. Louis, Waveland, or south of the RR tracks in Pass Christian, Long Beach, Gulfport and Biloxi.

Not exactly fun.

I'd seen pieces of that video, but not all of it before. Wow. That's enough to make me run for it if ever someone says "hurricane" at me. They're just lucky the hotel didn't collapse!

I think that counts as terrifying... and those guys were nuts to stay and film it. It did strike me though that it would be somehow easier to film this happening at a hotel in an area I was visitng than I if I lived there... if these were visitors, they got to go home to their nice safe, dry houses when it was over, vs those that have to clean up and live with the rebuilding.

Oh, that is truly awful to watch! I am glad you got to see Nina though. I have been reading her posts and they are not very happy reading.

No, it's not been a happy time for most of us, and she had to endure a bit longer time of being out of contact, since she lives so far out in the boonies. I was surprised at how bad the damage was that far out. Not so consistent as closer in, but there were patches of areas that were just shambles. Probably mostly tornados spun off from the feeder bands.

I try to comprehend how it must be but I don't know and words fail me. We don't get that kind of catastrophes here. Maybe a small version on the west coast but I live on the east side, protected by the mountains and the forest. It would have to come from east if something should harm this part of Norway. But I am here, so if you need to talk, just ramble on (I do it often enough as it is, well now too, lol).

If you want something to take your mind off things with, I have finished your story for stumping me and it's up. I admit it could have been longer, but it is at least something and hopefully fitting your criteria for the story.
