Something rather amazing happened to me today.
Some of you may remember this post, which I made a little over a year ago, regarding a book on Tolkien and Middle-earth which I had read, and then written a letter to the author.
Well, you could have knocked me over with a feather when I received a response from her today...
It was very gracious in tone. She complimented me on how courteous the letter was, and apologized for having taken so long to respond, as she had misplaced the letter for a time. But most important of all, she said: "Moreover, I feel sure that you are right about the points you made concerning Merry & Pippin, and I stand corrected."
Wow! How thrilling and unexpected that was! I wished that there had been someone around for me to high five!!!
In addition, I got a call yesterday from the lay leader at our church. Every spring and fall, for about 5 or 6 weeks, our church holds a special Wednesday event, with a pot luck supper and classes on various topics afterwards. I had mentioned vaguely that I thought it would be neat to do a class on the Christian themes of JRRT and CS Lewis--and he asked would I be willing to do that this year for the fall sessions!
*grin*
