Fic rec: The Quiet Hobbit
Oct. 8th, 2008 08:48 amFor ages and forever, I’ve wanted to read a particular AU: a hobbit version of “The Quiet Man”--John Wayne’s best movie ever--with Merry playing John Wayne and Estella playing Maureen O’Hara’s role. Well, a few weeks ago,
the_arc5 began to write it for me--it’s up to chapter three already, and it is utterly perfect and charming and very hobbity indeed!
Foreword Absolutely hilarious, and essential to understanding this little AU.
Chapter One
Chapter Two: Concerning Pies
And now she’s posted another chapter:
Chapter Three: Concerning Kisses
Here’s a little excerpt from Chapter three:
Merry turned and pulled up short, nearly nose-to-nose with Estella.
“It was a good match,” she said curtly. “I’m glad you won.”
A stray breeze would have been good to knock Frodo, Sam, and Rosie flat, should it have fancied it. Merry grinned, a small, uncurling grin that rolled over his mouth like the Brandywine itself.
“Thank you,” he murmured, pulling all of his considerable Brandybuck charm to the surface. Estella sniffed.
“No need to look like the cat who drunk the cream, just because you can stuff yourself silly.”
With that, she turned sharp on her heel and walked away, her skirts swishing close enough to brush Merry’s ankle. Merry watched her, his grin fading from charmingly coy to struck silly in a matter of seconds.
Ashlee, this is so perfect! ((((((squishes you)))))))
