Old Friends and New

Bag End is in for a jolly time when some of Bilbo's old friends come for a visit. (Domestic fluff, as requested! Fluffity-fluff-fluff! with some backstory and only a teensy bit of possibly angsty foreshadowing.)

It's kind of a departure for me, being a meld of movie-verse for The Hobbit:AUJ, AU, and book-verse, and it was beta'd for me by the incomparable shirebound, who also gave me the title! And there is a little tribute to the story marigoldg and I co-wrote, "Ho! Ho! My Lads!" as well.

Here's my birthday fic for all of you to enjoy: a bit of Young!Frodo and Wee!Merry fluff. Sorry for its late-in-the-day appearance.

(Author's Notes: This story takes place right after the flashback events described in "Dear Frodo..." during the summer of the first year in which Frodo has gone to live in Bag End. (Frodo is 20 and Merry is 7, the hobbit equivalent of human children 13 and 5½).

In my Shire, Ferumbras had abdicated as Thain that year, and Paladin and Eglantine had sent the children to stay with relatives until they could get settled in the Great Smials, as they did not wish to expose the children to gossip and unpleasantness, until Paladin had managed to get the Tooks used to the idea of him as Thain.]
