In case anyone is still interested, here are some of the pictures I took last week along Highway 90. There were some other places I wanted to take pics of, but there was no safe place to pull over and aim the camera. Thanks muchly to danachan for helping me to post these.

It's going slowly.
On the personal front, our home is mostly fixed. We are simply waiting now to do a few finishing touches when we find out if we will get any more money from our insurance. (We *should*. I don't know that we *will*)

Coast wide, things are still pretty dire. There are FEMA trailers all over the place, and some folks are still in tents. Debris is still widespread, and yet the deadline for its removal is fast approaching. There is political infighting over rebuilding the bridges on Hiway 90. It's not good, and it's not going to be good for a long while.

But we will still be having Mardi Gras.8-D

I was watching Anderson Cooper's coverage on what's going on with the trailers, etc (apparently there's one parish in LA with only 15 habitable houses and the FEMA trailers are still in Arkansas fr cryin' out softly). My heart goes out to all of y'all.

But at least there's Mardi Gras. The structures may be gone, but the spirit is still strong. :D

I can't imagine how hard it must be seening those sights but I am glad your DH didn¨t work at that hospital when the hurricane hit and I hope they build up your favourite restaurant soon!

Well, yes, I'm very glad as well--they did not evacuate *any* hospitals. At the VA they kept moving all the patients up and back. (There are more buildings behind that one, that weren't hit quite so hard.) But they ended up with all of them crammed onto one upper floor of the furthermost building.

Don't know if they will build the Olive Garden back or not. I just wish the Barnes & Noble Bookstore would reopen. 8-(

It looks so forlorn with those places wrecked or altogether flattened. I'm sorry about the damage, but I read in your comments that Mardi Gras will still happen, and that made me smile and lightened my heart a bit. You guys are so tough and brave, you humble me.

My Mum ordered that DVD from WLOX, but we haven't gotten after like six weeks later and don't know why!

You may want to call them. I took my mother by the station, and she was able to buy it right there in person. But the receptionist said the ones ordered by internet or phone were backed up--I didn't realize it was six weeks, though!
