Hello, all.
Jun. 1st, 2006 10:40 amIt looks as though my computer is going to cooperate for a while longer. It's been a while since I updated to let everyone know what's going on.
My sister, her husband, and my neice came for a visit last weekend. My sister was to clear out my mother's storage facility, as her rent runs out in August, and my mom really can't afford $60 a month any more. (I had paid two years in advance when she moved into the nursing home, and it was about to run out.)
But that Fri. night my mom had a fall. The nursing home called about midnight to tell us she was going in to the ER, so we went down there, and were there until 4AM. She turned out to have two broken ribs and two fractured lumbar vertabrae. The hospital said she was not a good candidate for surgery, and sent her back to the nursing home. She's going to be stuck in bed for a good long while.
The rest of my sister's visit was fun. My sister's husband and my neice returned on Sat. evening, as my B-I-L had to get the borrowed truck back, and my neice is still a newlywed, and missed her husband. We had hot dogs for supper, and a nice visit. That evening, I showed Sis the DVD of Hurricane Katrina.
Sunday, Sis and I went to see Mom, and then Sunday afternoon the DH took us both to the matinee to see X-Men 3, followed by supper out at IHOP.
Pictures of her home area are very tempting, now that hurricane season has arrived. The DH is talking about moving again--and I have to say, I'm strongly thinking about it. She lives in a beautiful area of north Alabama, well away from any hurricanes...
Since Monday, I've been working like a demon to get the last of my Challenge 29 stories finished. (I was doing four. Am I crazy or what?) Anyway, late last night I sent the last of them to
marigold and am eagerly awaiting Challenge Friday! The last story was very long, very angsty, and has left me in the mood to make a bit of short fluff. So look for that later in the day. *grin*
And I'm still waiting on cable to fix my internet permanently. It's settled down for now--but I don't trust it, after the "on-and-off" thing it's been doing since last week.

Date: 2006-06-01 05:26 pm (UTC)Yep--it's that time of year. There are still 39,000 people down here living in flimsy FEMA trailers, and tons of debris yet to be moved--it's a concern, it really is.

Date: 2006-06-02 06:01 pm (UTC)I can understand you wanting to move now that the hurricane season is coming again. I wouldn't blink if you decide to do so. I really, really hope you won't be afflicted this time. Last year was more than engouh for a life time don't you think?
