I'm back!!
Mar. 26th, 2007 08:44 pmHi everyone! I'm home at last! We had a horrendous drive--got lost several times, and drove and drove and drove...*sigh* We left OK at 10:30AM Fri, and arrived in Gadsden, AL at 3:30AM Sat. Needless to say we were pretty tired.
But it was worth it--I had a great time. My neice is the one who planned the party and did the work, and I think she did a brilliant job. It was so great to see everyone. Took loads of pics, and
danachan has uploaded a few of them for me, so:
This first pic is me with my younger grandson. He's 8, and he's adorable.

My son and daughter-in-law--

Me, my son and his wife, and the older grandson, age 11--

My mom with both my grandsons--

Me, my sister, my brother, my mom--

My uncle (in the red shirt) is Momma's only living sibling. He has Alzheimer's, but he remembered her, and they had a wonderful visit. I was so pleased, because Momma was sure she'd never get to see him again.

In the back, my sister between two of our first cousins on my father's side, my Mom and Uncle at the table, and his daughter, my first cousin on my mother's side--

Me with son and his family--

My very own wonderful DH. He was very good at allowing his picture to be taken this weekend--something he does not normally allow--

My brother and nephew helping Momma open her gifts. That's the shawl I knitted for her--

My nephew, and my sister, holding my great-neice. Isn't she adorable?

The DH, son and D-i-L in the courtyard downstairs from the party--

Momma and my grandsons--

All the males of the family that were still there--

The party was held in a very nice community center, that included a children's museum and a model train exhibit, so none of the younger set were bored. After it was all over with, my cousins A and B, and my son and his family and the DH and I went to Applebee's and had supper together. Then I went and visited A. and B. at their motel for a couple hours.
Sunday morning, we decided to go to the nursing home to see Momma for a few minutes before we headed home. We got lost again. Finally found it, and I talked with her, and my brother and his partner for a while, then we hit the road. We were doing pretty well until we got to Birmingham, when we got lost *AGAIN*. *sigh* Finally we made our way out of Alabama, but when we stopped for the night, we were only a quarter of the way home. Got up at 4:30AM and drove on, getting home approximately 12 hours later!
VERY tired, and happy to be home--lots of LJ to catch up on--I hope I don't miss anything important when I skim my flist!

Date: 2007-03-27 01:35 am (UTC)I'm glad you arrived safely...ugh, once while driving to Illinois from Florida, we took a wrong turn in Tennessee and ended up going toward Alabama instead of Kentucky!! D'oh! :-)

Date: 2007-03-27 02:39 am (UTC)Every time we drove through Alabama going to Mississippi, we kept swearing they'd moved the state line to Mississippi west. We thought we'd never get through it. We never got lost, thank goodness. It was a 12 hour trip for us, and I'm convinced 6 of it was spent in Alabama.:)
Get some rest. You've earned it.

Date: 2007-03-27 01:11 pm (UTC)As for the getting lost.. last spring when I went to pick up my daughter from school we headed up to Idaho for my neice's wedding. I drove and my daughter played navigator, and I lost track of how many times we got lost that trip! By the end, we couldn't help but laugh hysterically, but it certainly is tiring when you add that many more hours/miles to the trip.
Enjoy a nice long sleep now!
