My sister sent me this photo that appeared in USA Today. It's a picture taken at a football game, and shows her son-in-law with one of my little great-nieces! I've not had a chance to meet this little cutie in person yet, so it was fun to see the picture of her:

Meet Sophie! Meet Sophie! Here's our Sophie! You can't really see her white chest in this pic.

I am not used to working on Sunday. The whole routine at the store, and the rhythm of the customers is totally different. Plus I started my morning off by getting locked in the broom closet.

Yep. See, I was told to clean the women's restroom, which I actually like doing, because it's something different than stocking shelves or waiting on customers. So I went into the broom closet that is located between the women's and men's restroom in order to get my cleaning supplies. Got them together. Turned around and pushed on the door to go out-- nothing happened. I suddenly realized someone must have turned the latch on the outside (there is no inside latch), so I start banging on the door and hollering. In just a few minutes, someone heard and let me out.

The girl who'd locked me in was all apologetic-- she didn't know I was in there, and she'd wanted to hang her apron on the latch, so she turned it. (It's not a very good hanger in the "open" position.) This is a habit a lot of the employees have, because we are not allowed to wear our aprons into the restrooms for sanitary reasons. BUT, there is a HOOK *IN* the broom closet for that purpose. If she'd opened the door to used that hook, she'd have known I was in there. *sigh*

Anyhow, I'm glad to be home. I do work tomorrow, but it's a short shift, thank goodness!

The DH and I are going to postpone Valentine's Day until next week, when hopefully both of us will be off at the same time, and also we have a payday on Fri. that should include a ton of overtime. Still, I had fun making a Valentine's Day wreath for our front door. Pic behind cut... Read more... )

So, what's everyone else up to?

These are pics the DH took of me wearing the new dress I made for Christmas. I wore it Sunday, and will probably wear it again tomorrow night to the candlelight service.

Here's another of my painted rock hobbit holes.

I did a little picspam detailing the "how-tos" over at [livejournal.com profile] lotr_crafts

And thanks again, [livejournal.com profile] danachan for helping me post these!

I'm seldom up this time of night. We usually go to bed about 10, though sometimes I wake up in the wee hours and get up. But the poor DH has gone to the ER with a sore throat, poor baby. We're afraid it might be strep, *sigh*!

Anyway, I won't be online in the mornings much next week, as I've volunteered to help out with VBS at church. I don't know how well it's going to work out: the contractor, who was supposed to have finished by now (which was the plan when I volunteered) has been delayed by the rain. All his work now *should* be mainly exterior, though so maybe there won't be any problem. And I should be home by shortly after noon.

In other news--see my new icon? [livejournal.com profile] danachan made it from the same picture I used for the "Hole Sweet Hole" items at the Mathom-house! And she made me some other cool icons too!

I'm back!!

Hi everyone! I'm home at last! We had a horrendous drive--got lost several times, and drove and drove and drove...*sigh* We left OK at 10:30AM Fri, and arrived in Gadsden, AL at 3:30AM Sat. Needless to say we were pretty tired.

But it was worth it--I had a great time. My neice is the one who planned the party and did the work, and I think she did a brilliant job. It was so great to see everyone. Took loads of pics, and [livejournal.com profile] danachan has uploaded a few of them for me, so:

Well, the internet has been cooperative today, and with [livejournal.com profile] danachan promising to figuratively hold my hand as co-mod, I took the plunge and we have set up a new community: [livejournal.com profile] lotr_crafts

I started with a couple of posts of projects of my own. I hope to soon see a lot more wonderful things posted. If you have already posted projects in the past on your own LJ, feel free to post links to them!

We want all kinds of projects, from costuming to miniatures to needlework to whatever you can think of!

And if you have not done crafts with a Lord of the Rings theme, but would like to, I hope you will come to us with any questions you might have.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] danachan, here's some pics of Gulf Wars. I only got to attend Thursday and Saturday, and the pictures came up somewhat out of order. They are all thumbnails, so you can click on them to get a better view.

Thursday, I spent most of the day at Scribe's Point working on scrolls, and Saturday I did a lot of shopping. Since I had the drive back, I did not stay for Great Court Saturday night, though I would have dearly loved to.

I had loads of fun though, and saw a few people that I did not expect to see, since I knew that they had been affected badly by Katrina. But they had made it there anyway, which pleased me no end!
