Katrina strikes again...

The DH talked to his sister in Bay St. Louis today, and told him some disturbing news:

That is very sad indeed. Construction is such a dangerous line of work really. Members of my family have been involved in working high steel and I honestly don't know how anyone has the nerve for that sort of thing.

It's a very dangerous line of work. And unfortunately, it looks as though in the rush to get the bridge open, corners may have been cut. Scary!

Very scary when they cut corners on bridge work. Think of the danger to travelers if they have cut corners on the bridge itself!

I've also heard that the death rate in New Orleans is up like 50% since Katrina in general...

It would not surprise me. The last time I was in N.O., a couple of months before we moved, we were in East Jefferson Parish, and it was 15 months after Katrina, and it still looked as though the storm had just happened a few weeks before. So horribly depressing and sick-making. Anyone living in that mess would be awfully down, and it would be hard to take care of one's health.

It's awful, as well, for those who live there, and know it was the efforts to get that bridge re-opened that caused it! *sigh*
