More Christmas-y stuff

These are pics the DH took of me wearing the new dress I made for Christmas. I wore it Sunday, and will probably wear it again tomorrow night to the candlelight service.

This one shows the purse I also made to go with it. (I made it out of a Christmas placemat!)



I wanted to post some pics of him on Sunday-- he played one of the Wise Men in the cantata. He'd never been in a Christmas pageant before! But my batteries gave out. *sigh* I did get a little bit of video, but I haven't figured out how to upload that.

Finally got my Christmas cards mailed today. I have a sneaking suspicion that they will not arrive before Christmas Day...

Thanks! The purse cost two dollars-- the price of the placemat at Dollar General!

And thank you about the unicorns-- I have an extensive unicorn collection; I've been collecting them since 1970.

Believe it or not, the fabric is a tablecloth! I couldn't find any fabric locally that appealed to me, and then I saw the tablecloths at Walmart!

Both of those posters are official ones, given out to the members of our SCA groups who took part in a demo at the theater parking lot on opening night of each movie! We didn't do one for Fellowship, alas!

Thank you very much! It was fun to make. The dress pattern is one I've used several times, but the sleeves came from another pattern, a blouse pattern I had.

That dress is the perfect color for Christmas. It must be so nice to be able to sew. Your tree is lovely too. Happy Holidays! (I mailed my cards late too. I am just hoping that people will enjoy them after Christmas.)

Well, the fabric was from a Christmas tablecloth, believe it or not! I enjoy sewing, but it took me years to be halfway decent at it!

I got your card yesterday! It was beautiful! (And Christmas isn't over until January 6, the twelfth day of Christmas!)

I know envy is a sin but I do envy those who can sew. I failed miserably at school. Cross stitch is more my thing. Lovely dress and purse and decorations too.

I failed at it at school, too. It wasn't until I got out of school that I realized I had to learn to sew if I wanted clothes that were the styles I liked, and not what was available in the store!

I enjoy cross-stitch as well, though I tend to do more silk ribbon embroidery.

You made that dress? I'm impressed -- The only sewing I've really ever managed is to make Star Trek uniforms! But never a dress. I love the rich, jewel red and the pattern. Sadly, I can't wear red with my autumn colouring, but it suits your colouring very well. :)

Yes. It's a fairly simple pattern. If you could sew a Star Trek uniform, you could sew a dress! I think the uniform would be more difficult-- pants are one thing I really have no luck in sewing to look good.

When I was younger I was more of an autumn, but as I've gotten older, I've moved more to winter.

Thank you! I had not planned the purse until I saw those placemats on sale! It was dead easy to make-- all I had to do was basically fold it in thirds, and seam it up, with a loop of ribbon on each side to attach the chain handle. (It's a detachable chain I've used for several purses.) You can't see the other side where the flap is, but I added some red beads along the edge for fun.

That's a really pretty dress---and very flattering. I love the addition of the belt.
