I really didn't want to have to go to work today, much as I like my job, I would rather have been off. But I am so glad I did...

The store was having a beading Make-It-Take-It, which is both kind of fun, as I get to sit there and bead but also kind of boring when there are not a lot of interested customers. And on Sunday afternoons, though we usually get crowds because of the 40% coupons, they are almost always in a hurry.

Anyway, I was also supposed to supervise a Boy Scout troop building a rocket model, but they didn't show up. Another associate was helping man the beading table, though, so when a customer came in, looking for help with her little girl's school project, I was available.

She was supposed to be making a diorama of "The Hobbit", which she was reading for a book report. You can imagine how I *jumped* at that, LOL! Turns out they are great fans of the films, and mother and daughter are *both* reading The Hobbit, with plans to start on LotR as soon as they finish! I had so much fun taking them around the store, as we figured out how the little girl was going to do her project. She wanted to do the scene of the giant spiders in Mirkwood.

Instead of putting her diorama in a plain box, we got her a paper mache box that looks like a book.

I had a blast talking to the mom, told her about fanfic, and pointed her to SoA as a family- and kid-friendly archive. Then they came back up, and made bracelets, and we talked about LotR, the movies, the whole time.

I do love my job.

That sounds like so much fun! I worked at a Renaissance Faire a year ago, and *everyone* talked LOTR. It was so much fun, and as I was hawking masks, I told people that I could make them look like Treebeard and the Mirkwood Elves. It was great! ^_^

Wow, it's funny how sometimes something we are not looking forward to turns out to be great fun.

Sounds like a great day at work! I used to have those at the bookstore, but no one calls in for insurance benefits and wants to talk about much of anything interesting. *sigh* Why can't the jobs that pay more, be more interesting? You have me wanting to make a diorama now. I used to love arts and crafts but haven't done anything in ages. Maybe some needle point would be fun.
