Oookaay! Last night the DH told me that they want to try changing his shift from 11am to 11pm to 12noon to 12midnight. (The lady who came on board with him has quit, and the new person prefers 12 to 12, so they want both of them on the same shift.) That means that instead of having two hours to kill till he gets home, I have three. I have already done all the laundry, cleaned the bathroom, the kitchen and the stove, straightened my desk and balanced the checkbook (the bank and I disagree over $2.59 and I can't find where I messed up.). Earlier I did a bunch of modly stuff at [livejournal.com profile] lotr_community and [livejournal.com profile] lotrgficbigbang. I went to the grocery store and the pharmacy. I read some fic. I knitted. I played some stupid computer games. There is nothing worth watching on TV. So, I guess I will do that meme that's going around tonight...

1.Four places I go: work, church, the library, Walmart
2.Four favorite smells: Rising bread, cinnamon, simmering soup, my husband
3.Four people I think will respond: [livejournal.com profile] shirebound, maybe [livejournal.com profile] claudia603, possibly [livejournal.com profile] labourslamp and [livejournal.com profile] ansostuff
4.Four TV shows I watch: No Ordinary Family, Holmes on Homes, Extreme Home Makeover, Good Morning America

I need to work on some fic. But my brain is being extremely uncooperative tonight. A little peace and quiet is nice, but too much of it can make me antsy...

One good thing: I remembered 15 minutes before the library closed to call and renew my books that were due today. (With as many books as I have out, overdues can be a minor disaster.)

Also, I found a couple of fics I'd missed out on to read.

Well...it depends how conscientious you are about seeing things legally.

*cough*

Ah well.

(you should totally rent/buy the dvds, though...for next time you are bored. :-) )

By the way, your DH has a very long shift! I think my dad is gone 12 hours, but he commutes to the city and back, which takes quite a bit of time...

Ah! I have a friend who's a nurse, and she has the same thing...only she lives a bit closer to home.

...Now I feel obligated to respond! :-O

(But probably not take up the meme myself... I don't think I watch four shows; certainly not at the present time!)

I hope that the extra time doesn't muck up whatever system you have in place too much. I'd probably find it delightful, but that's because I'm young and weird and write best during the wee hours of the morning. Thanks to the letter-writing exercise, I've got a beaut bit of dialogue that's just humming along right now, or it was until a bit of poetry got in the way (I really like it when I'm warned that I'm about to write poetry!). Anyway, I hope you don't/didn't have to stay up too late!

I say you've managed to keep busy anyway while waiting for your husband. :) I had an evening like that yesterday to and this morning is the same. I'm bored and I can't figure out what to do. I could clean, I could cook some dinners to freese for evening shifts, I could go for a walk but the roads are really icy so it's tempting fate doing so. I'm not in the mood to write, I've done some reading and I don't want to knit. :) Life is full of choices...

*hugs*

Oh, and you're right, I did respond to this.

Oh Barbara, you are such a busy lady! I certainly was not up late enough, lol, you know how *that* goes with me because I have to get up so early. I don't watch many shows anymore, just the news and bits of whatever history or science program my husband has on. I signed up for the BB but now I'm having second thoughts that I might have taken on too much because of my new responsibilities at work which seem to be consuming every minute of my already limited time. *Hugs*

I'm fond of Holmes on Homes, and also his new show Holmes Inspection.

I think both of Mike's kids are part of Damien's crew, too, and it's sort of fun seeing them essentially apprenticing in the family business.

I like Holmes on Holmes... he's a cool dude, that one. :)

I hear you about library fines... I used to be so bad about getting books back on time that they probably could have built a new wing based on my fines. :P Fortunately, I'm older, wiser, and better organized these days.

Me too. But the library I go to here is part of a thing called Library Elf--I get email alerts for 3 days before the books are due, and every day if I have an overdue. You should see if your library is a part of that! (It's a national thing, but not every library is signed up to participate.)

Yes, our library does the same thing, though not with ELF--it uses a system called CoolCat (Consortium of Ozarks Libraries) for everything from the card catalog to my own account--it will even keep "favorites" lists for me. I can request books be put on hold and delivered to my local branch (if I were disabled or homebound in any way, they'd come straight to my house), renew, write online reviews, etc. I can even request inter-library loans from all over the nation, which I've had to do more than a few times. I pretty much do everything but actually pick up the books online now (and if I ever get an e-reader, for many books I wouldn't even have to do that... although to be honest, I like the feel of an actual book in my hands). And though I don't need them as much these days, those due notices can be lifesavers when I get busy and forget a due date is approaching.

Gotta love technology!

I really wish Amazon would get with the program and allow their e-readers to use library books. I don't think it would undercut their sales at all--people who use the library wouldn't be buying many if any of those books anyway.

Wow, Tuesday nights are the one time we watch TV - NCIS, NCIS:LA and (starting again this week) White Collar.

I never liked it when my hubby was on swing or late shifts, so I sympathise with you.

I love to smell cinnamon too. And cooking soup, or chili. Homey smells add such comfort to a home.
