Oookaay! Last night the DH told me that they want to try changing his shift from 11am to 11pm to 12noon to 12midnight. (The lady who came on board with him has quit, and the new person prefers 12 to 12, so they want both of them on the same shift.) That means that instead of having two hours to kill till he gets home, I have three. I have already done all the laundry, cleaned the bathroom, the kitchen and the stove, straightened my desk and balanced the checkbook (the bank and I disagree over $2.59 and I can't find where I messed up.). Earlier I did a bunch of modly stuff at
lotr_community and
lotrgficbigbang. I went to the grocery store and the pharmacy. I read some fic. I knitted. I played some stupid computer games. There is nothing worth watching on TV. So, I guess I will do that meme that's going around tonight...
1.Four places I go: work, church, the library, Walmart
2.Four favorite smells: Rising bread, cinnamon, simmering soup, my husband
3.Four people I think will respond:
shirebound, maybe
claudia603, possibly
labourslamp and
ansostuff
4.Four TV shows I watch: No Ordinary Family, Holmes on Homes, Extreme Home Makeover, Good Morning America
I need to work on some fic. But my brain is being extremely uncooperative tonight. A little peace and quiet is nice, but too much of it can make me antsy...
One good thing: I remembered 15 minutes before the library closed to call and renew my books that were due today. (With as many books as I have out, overdues can be a minor disaster.)
Also, I found a couple of fics I'd missed out on to read.

I hope that the extra time doesn't muck up whatever system you have in place too much. I'd probably find it delightful, but that's because I'm young and weird and write best during the wee hours of the morning. Thanks to the letter-writing exercise, I've got a beaut bit of dialogue that's just humming along right now, or it was until a bit of poetry got in the way (I really like it when I'm warned that I'm about to write poetry!). Anyway, I hope you don't/didn't have to stay up too late!

Date: 2011-01-19 07:42 am (UTC)He just got home a few minutes ago. I don't think the 12-12 is going to work. The new lady has discovered some flaws in it, so I think it will be back to 11-11 after tonight!
LOL! No need to take up a meme. I don't impose those! And I hope the dialogue comes back for you. It was rather interesting arguing with your character the other night!

Date: 2011-01-19 01:00 pm (UTC)I hear you about library fines... I used to be so bad about getting books back on time that they probably could have built a new wing based on my fines. :P Fortunately, I'm older, wiser, and better organized these days.

Date: 2011-01-19 03:31 pm (UTC)Me too. But the library I go to here is part of a thing called Library Elf--I get email alerts for 3 days before the books are due, and every day if I have an overdue. You should see if your library is a part of that! (It's a national thing, but not every library is signed up to participate.)

Date: 2011-01-19 03:45 pm (UTC)Yes, our library does the same thing, though not with ELF--it uses a system called CoolCat (Consortium of Ozarks Libraries) for everything from the card catalog to my own account--it will even keep "favorites" lists for me. I can request books be put on hold and delivered to my local branch (if I were disabled or homebound in any way, they'd come straight to my house), renew, write online reviews, etc. I can even request inter-library loans from all over the nation, which I've had to do more than a few times. I pretty much do everything but actually pick up the books online now (and if I ever get an e-reader, for many books I wouldn't even have to do that... although to be honest, I like the feel of an actual book in my hands). And though I don't need them as much these days, those due notices can be lifesavers when I get busy and forget a due date is approaching.
Gotta love technology!
