This seemed very appropriate for Palm Sunday:
The Donkey by G. K. Chesterton
When forests walked and fishes flew
And figs grew upon thorn,
Some moment when the moon was blood,
Then, surely, I was born.
With monstrous head and sickening bray
And ears like errant wings—
The devil's walking parody
Of all four-footed things:
The battered outlaw of the earth
Of ancient crooked will;
Scourge, beat, deride me—I am dumb—
I keep my secret still.
Fools! For I also had my hour—
One far fierce hour and sweet:
There was a shout around my head
And palms about my feet.

Date: 2011-04-18 02:02 pm (UTC)Yesterday we did something different at church to read the Passion. The Pastor prepared a script - word for word from Matthew - and various members of the congregation took parts. I, alas, was assigned to be the High Priest. Pastor read the narrative portions and we each stood and said our parts as they came. It made the story a little more 'alive' than just listening to the Pastor read it all himself. And as it went on people started putting more emotion into their parts, which made it even better.
