I swiped this meme from [livejournal.com profile] pandemonium_213 last week. It took this long for my voice post to show up!

Upload/record the answers to the following questions. Some people used "vocaroo". I used LJ voice-post

1. Your name and/or username:

2. Where you're from: (As specific or as generalized as you wish, depending on your level of comfort)

3. The following words: aunt, roof, route, wash, oil, theater, iron, salmon, caramel, fire, water, sure, data, ruin, crayon, toilet, New Orleans, pecan, both, again, probably, spitting image, Alabama, lawyer, coupon, mayonnaise, syrup, pajamas, caught, orange, coffee, direction, naturally, aluminum and herbs.

4. What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?

5. What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?

6. What do you call gym shoes?

7. What do you say to address a group of people?

8. What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?

9. What do you call your grandparents?

10. What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?

11. What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?

12. What is the thing you change the TV channel with?

Here are my answers:

Tennessee and North Carolina. Accent's a little different, but very close. I was born in Tennessee, but raised in Michigan.

This just made me smile. :-)

Hearing your lovely voice, then hearing all the "Southernisms."

Texas/Oklahoma is a bit different from Deep South in some terms and pronunciations, but purty simular. (Purt' near, but not quite hardly.)

As for the rain thingy, we call it a "shower," but some call it a "shahr." Annnd our family usually goes ahead and says, "A sunshiny shower won't last out the hour."

*big, back-patting hugs*

Oh, that was fun to listen to! Maybe I'll do this as well; I pronounce a lot of the things very differently than you do.

I'm still trying to do this meme! My voicepost isn't posting for some reason. Hopefully it'll show up eventually.

My comment seems to have disappeared... I'll try again.

I love your accent. It has that soft, southern drawl to it that makes me think of the heat of a summer's day and people kicking back and relaxing on the porch with a cool drink. Maybe a mint julep.

I LOVE YOUR ACCENT!

And the regionalisms, too, like "buggy." "Coca-coler" is neat, too, and interesting that, like Boston, an r is added.

It's also interesting to observe that when you read snippets from Tolkien, your lovely Deep South accent becomes toned down and you sound more "NPR"-like. :^)

A zapper! That's a good one. And 'that thing with one square wheel" had me laughing :)

Haha, I'm totally going to do this! Inject a bit of my accent into lj :-) I do love your accent though! I find it quite relaxing to listen to (if that doesn't sound weird...) ;D

Finally getting around to listening to this! Y'all talk like a lotta folks 'round here. There's a bit of a difference in how people here refer to a group: here they'll actually say "y'all" for individuals, as in "Hey, how y'all doin'?" instead of "How are you?" When they're talking to a whole group, it's "All y'all". Me, I sometimes say it that way, having picked it up from living in the Ozarks for the last 25+ years, but I still cling to my St. Louis roots and say, for a group, "You's" or "you guys", or if I'm feeling particularly south St. Louis Italian (usually after a plateful of toasted ravioli), I'll say "you's guys".
