Deck the Halls, part 2
Dec. 12th, 2012 12:15 pmHere are some more pics of our decorations this year:
This is the top of our glass-doored bookcase. This bookcase is a family heirloom in the DH's family; we keep most of our knick-knacks in there.

Here is the top of the piano. I keep forgetting to get a new candle for that candle-holder:

Here is the top of another bookcase, the one that's next to the piano. You can see the little doll I made this year and the larger doll, which has a battery operated light in the candle, and moves her head. It was a gift to my late m-i-l from us, and came back to us when she passed. The Santa boots were a gift from my husband's uncle..

Here's the dresser in our bedroom:
This darling little tree I found at a yard sale for only a couple of bucks. The lights that came with it did not work, so I found some tiny battery operated LED lights to replace them. The little stand is a music box and the tree turns if you wind it up. Each little ornament goes in one of the little drawers at the bottom; there are 24 of them, as it was meant to be a little Advent tree; but I decorate it all at one time.

I decorated my car this year! The reindeer antlers and Rudolph nose were a surprise from the DH:

And the little Christmas clings on the back were my idea...

And finally, a shot of our decorations at night-time:

In other news--Monday we got a nice surprise in the mail. A check for $85 from the electric co-op we belonged to in Mississippi! We did not expect to get one this year--but apparently they had more than 5 years worth of dividends to send us! (They hold the first few years, but we both thought it was 5 years, which would have made last year's check the last one--but apparently not! He says he thinks they may have held the first ten years; that would be cool, as it means we'd get them for another 4 years..)
Yesterday we went to Stillwater and did a little Christmas shopping. I picked up a few stocking stuffers, and the DH got one of my gifts--he needed me to pick it out, as it is a new desk chair! I'd been needing one badly, but it was not on my Christmas list, so I was quite surprised when we stopped at Staples and he made me go and sit in chairs, LOL!
I plan to finish my hobbit feet and my costume alterations today, and whip up a cloak for the DH. Tomorrow if I have time, I will make him a Gandalf hat.
Tomorrow night!!!!! *grin* I am so excited! Our son also decided to go with us, so we will pick him up on the way.

Date: 2012-12-12 08:32 pm (UTC)I don't know who came up with the antler idea, but I think it's such a cute thing!
What's interesting is that the one I picked actually did not cost as much compared to others three times the price--it was funny, there was no price on it, so the guy looked it up, and we were shocked to find out it was less expensive. But it hit me just right behind the knees, and was neither too hard nor too soft but was "just right". It was funny, I felt like Goldilocks as I sat down in each one, LOL!

Date: 2012-12-12 08:27 pm (UTC)It is. My old chair has a habit of "letting me down" (literally), and the ends of the arms are almost in shreds.

Date: 2012-12-13 12:43 pm (UTC)A new desk chair is a great gift, and an important one. Good ergometry, I hope?
I'm keenly interested in reading your your candid review of The Hobbit: AUJ. I'll likely see it between Christmas and New Year's.
