Eight Years Ago Today
Aug. 29th, 2013 07:02 amThis time eight years ago today, I was huddled on my couch with a battery operated radio as
marigoldg's mother and I were trying to find out what was going on as Hurricane Katrina raged around us. The storm lasted for hours and hours, and when we went outside, here was the sight that greeted us:

I kept a diary during those long days with no power and no communication. For those of you who are new to my flist, you may not have seen it:
My Hurricane Katrina Diary.
Hurricane Katrina: Then and Now from the Sun-Herald.
The Coast has yet to recover fully.

Date: 2013-08-29 02:06 pm (UTC)Having dealt with a similar disaster, if smaller on a geographic scale (the 2007 ice storm), where we lost power for 2+ weeks, I can definitely relate to the bliss of finally being able to take a warm shower and yes, use the washing machine again. What a marvel, washing machines! And I can relate to the gratitude for those in the armed forces who came to assist, in our case the National Guard who set up drinking water tanks for our small town.
I wonder... do you still have the purse you made, and did you ever post a photo?
