I was not amused.

I read *his* trilogy, and was very disappointed in it, finding it dark and depressing. Why is it that some people can never give credit where it is due? Why do they have to tear down the people who pave the way? JRRT was considered the Author of the Century. Somehow, I don't think Pullman will rate that!

When I read the first of his books, I thought I was going to enjoy it. It had an interesting premise. But I kept waiting for something to happen that never did. There was absolutely no payoff for the emotional investment of reading time. He joined a short list of authors that I wished I had never read because they are such downers. 8-(
However, until I read this quote, it never occured to me that he was not only a depressing writer, but an arrogant jackass, as well.
